I've been buying tires and wheels from TireRack as long as they've been in business. I am completely satisfied, although their telephone sales people aren't as objective as they were a few years ago. But TR's extensive online tire information is incredible - excellent objective tests, many millions of miles (literally) of tire survey responses, and MANY owner reviews that are helpful to get an idea about how a tire performs later in its life.
TR tires bought without wheels I have installed at a local Firestone/auto service location, where I spend plenty of money on service, and have purchased one set of tires after bringing in TR's prices for the same tire. They couldn't match (TR's price was close to their cost), but we split the difference. I'm on a first-name basis with both service writers, so they know I'm a solid, returning customer, and they never charge me outrageously for mount/balance, or give me a hard time about TR purchases.
