This is a trend in the NE.
I bought a house built in 2007 that had hardwoods throughout and in the Kitchen.
I don't like HWF in a kitchen. Makes no sense to me. Since it was a flip and rather large I just refinished them.
Prior owners were really rough. It bothers me with the stove, the fridge, and the sink etc. over hardwoods.
Not to mention chairs and a table.

Your point is that you don't like hardwoods in a kitchen? Good for you.

So rather that do it to standards you consider "right", you elected to continue what, by your own admission, makes no sense to you. Integrity...

I don't see problems with his integrity. He's fixing it to flip, not for himself. He's sticking with the prevailing popular trends to appease the market. His personal preference is just a side curiosity.

When I had my hardwood floor installed in the first floor, I decided to have the kitchen tiled instead of hardwood flooring. I have seen too many buckled hardwood floors from leaky fridges, or water leaks to avoid having it installed in kitchens and bathrooms. But I have to admit hardwood floor looks beautiful in a kitchen.

You nailed it. This is why hardwood in the kitchen isn't a good idea. Eventually it'll get ruined due to water spills. Like having hardwood in the bathroom. But whoever does a flip doesn't really care what happens in 5-10 years.

What would a sanctimonious never-been hack like you know about integrity??

By the way I love the hardwoods in your kitchen Pop- you grew and milled your own wood too......

Ole' Pops seems to have conflicting accounts regarding his flooring preferences. Integrity??

Laminate floors stand out like a cheap, sore thumb. Engineered hardwoods look and wear far better, and are often less expensive than some of the "high end" laminates and only marginally more expensive than the low end laminates. I can always spot a laminate floor the instant I walk into a home, and it always screams "rental property".

When I was invested in a house flipping company we refused to put in laminates for that very reason. Most looked like shiny plastic flooring that was pretending to be wood. We were always able to find engineered hardwoods that looked far better, increased the sale price of the home when we were finished, helped the home sell faster, and were much more durable for the home buyer.

I use a swiffer to clean it once a week. After 5 years it still looks like the day I laid it down. If I had to do it again I'd make the same choice.

The only nit picky issue that I have is if I cook something that spatters some grease on the floor in front of the stove. In my stocking feet it can get slick. But that's really nit picking.

Oh,O....laughed so hard I nearly pooped my pants.

Every forum needs it's entertainment troll! We used to have 2, but GearHeadTool was banned.

2nd Kitchen floor in 15 yrs. MDW picked a maple that is too blonde and a poor match for the wide white oak that aged in the attic for 25 yrs. I do not care. She has final say in the pink that covers the exterior. It is cheerful. It is a little in your face. We both hope it will fade in time The only time I put my foot down was when MDW wanted to paint the refinished to clear oak trim white I recycled from an old office floor. Tile comes with its own troubles. If cash no object maybe a heated slab.

Agreed
Carpet in a kitchen or bathroom isn't sanitary either.

No thanks to both.

Depends on the kitchen.

A family member of mine has a beautiful 6 bedroom cabin in Pinetop, AZ with hardwood floors throughout. It looks fantastic in the kitchen. A spill cleans up fine on it too.
