I just purchased 2 of these filters for my honda. They are JDM filters, and its claimed that they raise oil pressure by 5 PSI. Anybody have anything to say about these filters?

Will a mod please change it the title to "Hamp" to make this thread search friendly? Thanks

Done

Introducing Japan Honda's aftermarket line of automotive products..."HAMP Synergy". HAMP Synergy are aftermarket products designed by Honda and are a step up from the "Honda Original Parts" products. Not meant to compete with racing produts, however, these peices are quality. The HAMP filter can be used on any Honda, but was specifically designed for use in the Type-R and S series cars in mind. Features include a unique release valve that dynamically adjusts to the conditions within the filter to keep the oil flow and pressure constant. The HAMP oil filter will last longer and filter better than any of the oil filters currently on the market.

The small hamp filters that we offer are originally made for the RSX/DC5-R and EP3(03 Civic Type-R). They will also fit all 88-00 Fuel injected Honda/Acuras. By the same token, the new small HAMP filters will give about 5psi more of oil pressure due to its smaller size. There is no loss of filtration or performance with the smaller filter.

There is some information on it... Seems like a good filter to me.

Bull. Size can't effect a non-compressible liquid. If there's a 5 psi oil pressure difference it's due to some other mechanism. However, short of drastically increasing flow, I doubt it. Sounds like marketing drivel to me.

LSVTEC 91 Civic, take a look at this thread:

Scroll down to where BrewcityR mentions his experiece with the smaller filter. I know that even Honda is recommending the smaller filters as a replacemnt for the regular Honda filter, but stick with the regular size filter. Check with your dealer on the price of the S2000 filter, most people can get them for $5-6 bucks. -Joe

Wooo, I haven't been here for awhile. Y'know, I'm not sure if my experience is a bad thing. I've never had a leak using the very small HAMP filter (H1540-PFB-004), although the normal sized HAMP (H1540-PR3-408) I have seems to fit (not coming to a dead stop on the filter seat area) like any normal filter would.

I'll host a pic of the two filters here... http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wNjM3NTYwNnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE=.jpg

As far as pressure, I don't know yet. I will get my SPA oil pressure guage installed in spring and jot some numbers down (I guess cold and hot idle oil pressures) on both filters. I'll have do my homework on the guage too... it's digital and I think it can store peak/WOT oil pressure info also.

It looks like the HAMP filter shown here... http://store.yahoo.com/yhst-1408381693991/jdmhoheoilfi1.html ... is a lengthened version of my small HAMP filter (H1540-PFB-004). $10.49! Ouch. I got my HAMP filters from Mike at IPS Racing when he had a group buy on them @ ~$6 each.
