I looked inside my Bosch filter and I've always found dust inside but I decided to take a better look and saw some gunk around the seal as well as at the bottom of the filter seemed to have some reddish brown goo. I was able to wipe it off the filter seal area but not sure what it even is and would it damage my engine?

Looking at the color of the potting material/(glue) and baseplate design looks to be a hecho en Mexico Bosch (Prem?) filter. Based on past anecdotes here, no bueno. Excess potting and louver issues seen on them here before. I would say if it bothers you, don't trust it or can't remove it, don't use it. If you don't, a c&p would be great. What I see, speculating likely be ok, but your comfort level call.

Dollop of glue on the clean side..
That excess glue on the media looks gross too.

Return it for another one?

I’ve seen glue splattered inside more than that on various brands, and it can’t be great. I saw a smaller glue piece splattered on a Pentius filter in about the middle of the center tube. Sent it back, they sent another replacement, seems fine. I still went through return again, and Amazon just refunded the $7. Seems fine means what I can see seems fine. Can’t really see up by the base plate.
