I recently tried some Gumout Regane fuel system cleaner in my car. It was a dollar less then the Chevron Techron (in Wal-Mart).
My car did seem to perform better, leaving stop signs and stop lights faster. And on a recent trip I was getting really good mileage-even with a considerable amount of stop and go.
I like the idea of occasionally using fuel system cleaner. I just don't trust the detergent additive levels in fuel. When you look at the cost of a can of Techron foe example, I don't see how much of this additive could be put into gasoline without greatly increasing the cost of the gasoline. But I will say that Chevron gasoline has probably been the best gasoline I have used.
I think it does not hurt to put a good fuel system cleaner in maybe four times a year or so.
