Guess its my turn, lost a dog buddy

I am so very sorry for your loss! What a great dog, and your story of how he came to join your “pack” is heartwarming. Truly. I loved it. Hence the “love” emoji - brought tears to my eyes. May Cruiser rest in peace.

They give us so many of our best days and one of the worst.
You did the brave and kind thing. Being there at the end is the least we can do for them.
All dogs go to heaven.
Sd sorry for your loss

Thanks for all the love and condolenses folks, he was a special guy. I will see him again one day.

Ed, thanks for the poem. I've copied it and will print/frame it to go with the memorial. Zee, thanks for fixing the pics.

Sad to hear about you losing your friend, OP. My wife and I have always had rescue cats we adopt from shelters. Losing our first 3 at around 17-18 years of age 4 years ago was really tough. But we adopted 3 more right after and have been really happy with them. We always tell the shelter we'll take whoever they've had the longest, sight unseen. All this is to tell you to adopt another dog, OP. SO many need homes, and I'm sure there's someone perfect waiting for you. :)

So sorry to hear, cherish the moments and the photos but for some reason when it comes to a much loved pet I don’t think that makes the pain of missing them any easier.

Sometime this year we will have to make that decision for our 14 year old dog. Failing heart valves, Dr says at some point this year his heart medication will no longer be effective. Not sure if he will see his 15th birthday in the summer. Mentally we try to prepare but can’t imagine him no longer being in our home.

One thing for sure, like you did. we will be by his side when the time comes. He became part of our family not much later than yours at the end of Sept 2010

I miss <<<<<Roscoe tremendously still, 14 months after he passed. So sad for the loss of your Cruiser.
Yes, you will see him again....and again..... and again someday, along with all the other pets you shared a home with in love.

So sorry for your loss. When our last dog passed a few years ago, we rescued another Akita. It’s a great way to honor your friend and give another dog a chance.

It happened fairly quickly, Cruiser, my almost 14 year old Lab/Shepard mix, crossed the Rainbow Bridge yesterday evening. He had been suffering from hip dysplasia, for a couple months and it was getting progressively harder for him to move around. A couple days ago, my other dogs sensed he was in distress and let us know. Found a wonderful in home vet to euthanize him here in the comfort of his own home, on his own couch, with me, and my wife and son loving on him til he was gone. I still remember the day, August 10, 2010, that I was walking out to my patrol car and this guy approached me with a sall furball in his hand. Said he found the barely 5 week old pup in the bed of his truck and didn't know what to do with him. Well, I did. Put a towel in the front seat and set him there. He immediately curled up and went to sleep. Made the mistake of taking a picture and sending it to my wife. She immediately put it on FaceBook and said we had a new dog. One person commented it was so cute that he was in my patrol car and said we should name him Cruiser. It stuck. Drove him around all shift until I had to take him to the city kennel. Went back and got him for my other 2 night shifts until Monday morning when I asked the Animal Control Officer about adopting him if no one claimed him. She told me to just go ahead and take him home, which I did. He wagged his tail furiously when he pooped on the bed the first time. Couldn't get mad. He always smiled and wagged his tail no matter what. Even when he knew yesterday we had to say goodbye. Gonna miss that guy.

I'm sorry. Thank you for posting his picture so we could see him. He is beautiful. He is lucky to have had a wonderful loving owner.

Bless you.

Bryan

Find solace that you gave him a good home and a wonderful life. Thank you kind soul. You did good. There is always another dog or cat that needs a forever home. Maybe you it. Again.

Dogs add to our lives. Yesterday morning, my little mutt, Hector, alerted us to a Mohave Green rattlesnake in our back yard. The snake died and Hector had enough sense to stay away so he is fine. He got a reward.

Hector, my mutt, is a six month old pure bred Black & Tan Miniature Dachshund.

Stupid snake did not get the memo that rattlesnakes do not like residential neighborhoods.

I feel for you. When I was younger we had a beagle and got him a buddy. She was a beagle corgi mix. Someone left her tied to the door of the humane society. She lived to be 17.

My deepest sympathy and warm regards. I had to do the same thing about a month ago and it was extremely painful. I knew it was coming, and I thought I had prepared for it. Man was I ever wrong.

It's amazing how used to being around they are. My parents and sisters moved and Daisy and I became peas in a pod. After a while I could figure out every woof, arf, and grunt and what she was getting at. It's awesome your buddy got a good home. I've never wanted a macaw or tortoise.
