If you were going to choose either GTX or Valvoline white bottle 10W40,which one would you choose and why,and if price is the same for both.

VWB,JMO though. I like Valvoline oil`s.

Flip a coin. Heads VWB, tails GTX. Your engine probably can't even tell the difference between the two. Both are good quality conventional oils, and IIRC they have very similar add packs too.

Whichever is less expensive or on sale. I've had some great UOAs from GTX, or a GTX/Syntec blend, over the years but I think the oil is a little overpriced.

In 10w40 I'd pick the Valvoline without hesitation. The GTX version of 10w40 is extra thick with an unusually low VI. Strange since the GTX High Mileage has a much higher VI.

The other grades I'd say it's a toss up, add packs (at least those you can see) are near identical and both consistently post good results in the UOA section as well.

What, no love for 5w40? LOL

Same here, same reason.

I don’t try to avoid BP products. I care about the gulf and all, but I don’t care it was a BP issue. I love my car and I’m selfish when it comes to taking care of it, so I use their gasoline at just about every fill-up. Since I started driving in 1990 I’ve NEVER once had a fuel related issue, and never needed a fuel injector cleaning (which I think are a scam anyway)

VWB
Because I never hear or read anything bad about it. Ever. We split hairs on just about anything here at bitog yet VWB never gets any complaints, nor any stunningly glowing reports. It does its job with little to no fanfare and engines seem to last just fine with it.

Yep, you could replace VWB above with GTX and say the same thing about it as well. They both smell good to.

At the same price, there isn't much objective basis for any choice between the two.
They share very similar add packs and both seem to do pretty well in UOAs.
The only thing that comes to mind is that GTX is thicker than VWB, so that might be a consideration.
I'd choose VWB simply because it's blended and sold by a US based company and Ashland is an underdog relative to BP.
I've used plenty of Valvoline oil as well as GTX, but I've only used VWB once, so I have no real opinion of it.

Now that I think about it your right. Neither of them get much written, good or bad about them, however I'm still leaning towards valvoline. I'm still kinda choked over the whole group 3 syn label they started, and the market took to a whole other level.

The additive packages are identical. I'm more of a valvoline fan than castrol. I see VWB, QS,PYB, Mag1, sinclair, trop artic and Kendall at gas stations around here.
