Grease on a 1911?

I remember a person opined on anther forum grease shouldn't be on a 1911. Is that true?

Maybe grease is good for the summer but not the winter?

I thought about trying a thin coating of grease on the rails and locking lugs of my 1911.

The grease I have is Hoppe's.

I never knew it was an option. I always just use Lucas gun oil or CLP. Im curious to see what others say

If i was going to use it I would try Slide-Glide. It is at least promoted by a winning shooter. I have always just used a little oil.

No, grease is fine for the parts that slide, and an oil for pins and such. Guns are not like cars, they just need a bit of something.........but in really cold weather certain greases and oils can cause malfunctions.....really cold, like Alaska cold. In those condition use a cold weather oil of your choice.

Keep it lubed, the 1911 requires it........

I say CLP is too thin for the slide of a 1911.

Good thing I can never leave well enough alone. Started thinking and Im pretty sure I always put at least a drop on oil on the rails when reassembling

Anything that slides get a little dab of Wilson Combat Ultima Lube .
