our shed is on the back on an alleyway. door is too old to lock.

someone lifted it a foot, crawled in, stole my $300 hedge trimmer. everything else (incl car) is fine.

Called the cops, got case number, they came out to check if fingerprints could be taken. no.

checked the excess on the home insurance. $300.

no point in claiming. i am out of pocket $300...

i hope karma does its thing.

Two weeks ago my son in law had three large central AC units stripped of all the copper in them. These units were from commercial properity he owns.

I sure will. And keep an eye on the classifieds.

It's an odd thing to go to all the risk and trouble for. I think someone needed a hedge trimmer. It's just too niche an item to make the trip worth it. Either that or they had to take something ..and that was the most portable.

We have specialist thieves. Bikes are a big one. ATV's are another. After we had a couple of bikes stolen, I got an engraver and put name/address on all the sub assemblies. They would often break up a bike and mix and match to sell them. When they stole the marked one we got a phone call from the police a couple of townships away. They found it intact on the side of the road. It was useless to them.

We have specialist thieves too - a lot of stuff is stolen to use on marijuana plantations.Quad bikes and dirt bikes, generators, pumps etc. When they bust an operation, the cops find lots of stuff to return to owners.

I had a Sthil weedeater stolen a few years ago,we were living at a fully fenced property,6ft wooden fence and big gates. The gates weren't locked,so they just walked in,broke the lock on the garden shed and walked down the road with it.Walking down the road with a weedeater is not unusual. Not worth the insurance claim either.

silk, we have big problems with marijuana up here. everything (including my lawn) grows like there's no tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised frankly. there were a few big busts recently including manufacturing of harder chemical drugs from base products (not just precursors).

I don't like buying things of value for this exact reason. if you don't have it they can't steal it.

Same here in New Zealand, the country is one big hot house...everything grows like crazy. That's why our bio security is so strict - anything that gets loose goes haywire.Gorse and possums are a couple of examples.

Go bush anywhere in NSW, and it's the same stuff.

Funny when out in the 4WD, and come across a RWD corrolla, or dato 1600 with 3-4 males on board at crawling pace, all looking out into the bush and not where they are going.

Crinkles, sorry you had stuff knocked off. We've had a BBQ, a can of 2 stroke, half a couch.

Sometimes I think that having a large dog that lives outdoors in the warmer months isn't a bad investment. Around here, it's cold and snow on the ground 6 months out of the year, which tends to keep the petty thieves away.

Sucks that you got ripped off, at least it wasn't anything major.

Got my truck broken into at a hospital parking stall while getting a cast on my wrist. It wasn't more than thirty minutes. I was parked on the 4th deck and with all them cars makes me wonder why someone would target mine. Took my car registration, safety check and insurance card. Nothing in there to take. I was left with a broken door key...cost $350 to have it fix. Insurance covering $100 while $250 comes out of my pocket.

Sorry about your theft. It seems unreal. Might need to look behind my back since the thieves know where I live.

dogs were one door away from them. last night i left the door open so they could sleep in the garage. (it is a detached garage, they usually stay in the yard). it was raining like heck anyway, so it was their shelter, instead of having to let them into the house (they stink).

I think thieves should get what they deserve. They don't rob you of your stuff, they rob you of your time, money, efforts to purchase, the upkeep of the item, and peace of mind.

It's the thief that specializes in stealing weapons that I get most concerned about. After losing 4 guns in one robbery, I not only feel anger but concern as to what they are now being used for.
