Got A New Flashlight...

I have a torch style flashlight that runs on a 18650. Since I have several 18650's from dead laptops (laptop died not battery), can anyone recommend a magnet style one for automotive work?

The Skilhunt H03 i posted earlier in this thread takes 18650 cells and has a magnet, but the best thing about it is that it comes with a headband for use as a headlamp, which in many ways is even more useful than a magnet when working on a car. Respectable near 1000 lumen output as well.

Olight S2 if you'd rather have a traditional straight head flashlight with magnet.

Olight i1R 2 keychain light, rechargeable, twisty, 2 light levels (5 lm and 150 lm). They're running a promo until midnight tonight - $5 (incl. shipping). It says you have to share, but all you need to do is hit the "Email" button and not actually send any email to anyone.

I wouldn't pay full price for it, but at $5 it's not bad.

I don't smoke and only drinks I have is occasional beer or wine when we visit friends over the weekend. So I don't have too many avenues to waste money. The boss lets me indulge in small off the book expenses on flashlights and "car stuff"; I am lucky in that sense.

This week alone I ordered three the different colored SK68 (I always liked the black and the silver ones) and bought an EagleEye X2 warm white.

You should try a decent 18650 based light, I think you will get hooked on it. Tell me your budget, I will suggest something which will delight you.

I have a few of those. They're great.

Sams club has a 3 pack of flashlights similar to those I seem to lose 1 or 2 a year so it's a good deal at 3 for about $20. Not sure about lumens but they are quite bright at the highest settings. Have used several times during power outages.

I think flashlights are one of the most useful things in this world. I work at night, so I just need a flashlight. The flash of a smartphone is not enough, as the area where I work is really very large, so I need a powerful flashlight. This one was perfect for me https://www.amazon.com/Vont-Flashlight-Flashlights-Water-resistant-Accessories/dp/B089T8HDBV, as well as a set of spare batteries. If you collect flashlights, then I think you should add this flashlight to your collection, you will definitely like it. I've been using it for quite some time now and I haven't had a single problem while using it.

I usually buy based on the LED. It's tricky as new ones keep coming out each year. Here's a decent SST40. I've gotten C8 flashlights in the past and when newer brighter LEDs came out, I was just able to buy a drop in and just replace the LED instead of going with a new one and having an old worthless one sitting around. XPH50.2 is also another good one.

Haven't been on this forum for couple of years! In the meantime, I added Nicron N9 from Amazon last year and just recently picked up Wurkkos W30. Both of them at good price and recommended if you can get your hand on them. I thought I was completely cured but I guess a light per year should NOT count!

How is everybody doing?

My Olight H2R , bought August 2017, recently failed after a lot of use, and abuse. I was quite disappointed when it failed, I had lots of immediate need for such a light of equal abilities, and no desire to shop around locally, and was planning on driving 2600 miles three days later, to the other side of the country.

I did have an 18650 battery holder, with pigtails and an old harbor fright led headlamp which took 3 AAA batteries, so some zipties and solder and I had some 30 to 45 lumens available on my head to continue preparing for the drive, instead of holding a flashlight in my mouth, but I missed the ~650/150/30 lumens of the Olight.

I ordered an ArmyTek C2 Pro Max with the warmer LED, which is not as bright as the cool white version, but thats also kind of like picking flypoop from the pepper at 3720 vs 4000 lumens on turbo2.

My H2R was also the warm white version, but the battery was unable to support turbo's draw for the last 3 years, and the turbo output is kind of ridiculous, mostly being a wow factor, and short lived due to heat, even with a new fully charged battery.

The ArmyTek has many more light modes available, it is warmer, its 21700 battery has 1600 more Mah than the 18650 battery which came with the Olight, at 5000Mah. The beam is way more floody than my Olight H2r, and regular high is 450 lumens instead of 650, but more than enough for 8 foot long workbench tasks.

The Armytek can support turbo with well less than a fully charged battery, but how long is determined by how fast it heats up. It will automatically drop to 900 lumens when it gets too hot.
The Olight H2r's headband is more comfortable, on my head, and I had worn out one and bought a second, and now the armytek is in the Olight headband.

The Armytek C2 ProMax comes with an adapter so one can use their 18650 cells in it, and also a bicycle handlebar mount.
It is by no means an inexpensive light, but the build quality and function is very good in my opinion.

The extra size and weight of a 21700 over an 18650 is no issue, to me.
The Olight Perun2 was on my list as well when shopping, but the lack of a warm white version, and the included adapter for using my 18650 cells inside of it, tipped the scales, and had me spend the extra for the Armytek.

One major plus for me is the low light modes. The Olight had a 1 lumen minimum mode, too low for comfortable reading in bed at night, but the next lowest setting, was basically too bright for the same task. The Armytek has two low output modes, and the second dimmest is perfect for reading at night, and ythewarmer color over the Olight helps in the blue light/ falling asleep department.

Tha ArmyTek takes a bit of practice to figure out how to access all its available light modes in its advanced menu, but has the simple option menu as well.

I don't know if the 21700 battery format is going to stick around, but the 18650 option with the adapter and my existing cells, should get me through until the next latest greatest and brightest headlamp generation, is desired/ needed.

I'm probably going to get a cheapo 20 to 30$ 18650 headlamp as well, as not having a backup, proved a real burden.
