Got a Genesis...

Well, here we go again. Took it to the dealer last month. It makes a whining noise that matches engine speed, kind of like a supercharger but the tone is more like an old power steering pump. The dealer put in a new idler pulley, belt tensioner, and A/C compressor. It might be slightly quieter. It might also be normal. Total was $2,515.95 including the $350 rental car.

It also had a clunk when downshifting, or when giving it gas. New transmission mount installed, $587.50. Seems nice and smooth now.

Then on the way to the dealer for the transmission mount (it was on backorder) the driver’s power folding mirror motor ate itself. Total for replacement (also had to be painted) was $1,328.21 including the $70 rental car.

So far we are at a grand total of $9,832.24.

Also have 60k miles left of this 75k mile extended warranty :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
The Genesis of Theseus.

Maintenance is key to keeping things like new. I just did a bunch of things to my car this past year, new springs/struts, ball joints, control arms, sway bar links, tie rods, motor mounts etc. Made the suspension like new. Feels like new when driving and hitting potholes/bumps, bounces right back and everything feels tight and no noises. I don't understand how people can claim they drive 150-200k with just doing oil changes and no issues.
Ya just ignore the noises. Just like the lights on the dashboard. If you know it's not important, just filter it out.

Of course, I drive economy cars, it's not like they were ever "good". It's more like, I went cheap on buying, so might as well go cheap on maintaining. Just going to wear out anyhow, and last thing I want to do is put in a bunch of money only to give it away with a bunch of new parts.

Nick, when do you drive out of warranty? Just so I know to log back in and read the final summary. ;)

Well, I traded in the Sonata and got a 15' Hyundai Genesis 5.0L... I've always wanted a car with more power, but having a C6 Vette' and only driving it occasionally as well as having a daily driver wasn't all that realistic for me. I decided on comfort, saw the Genesis online and decided I didn't want the V6, I wanted the 5.0L 420hp model. It's nice, really nice. Adaptive cruise control, power rear sunshade, blind spot monitoring, 14 speaker Lexicon stereo, vented seats, etc. Plenty of power, it doesn't even seem all that fast but you look down and realize you're quickly over the speed limit, it's just so quiet and smooth you don't realize it.
[cries in 1.6L 😭]

May 2020 I purchased the warranty, I had 60k miles. Was a 72 month/75k mile warranty so I’m good until May 2026/135k miles, whichever happens. So it’ll be a while. I will probably have more content as I go, unless it decides to become a Camry and that was all the teething pains :ROFLMAO:

Another trip to the dealer under it's belt.

The radiator fan was squeaking, so they replaced the motor.

The sunroof was closing slow so they replaced the slides, the invoice calls them tilt levers. They also had to replace the side moldings because they don't come off after the original installation in one piece, which I'm glad because they were faded from the sun.

Also had the rear window re-tinted since it was blurred from the sun, $120 for that but I won't include it in the total. Not the car's fault.

Total was $1,220.82. Which brings the extended warranty payout total to: *drumroll please*: $11,053.06.

It would have been more, they offered a rental for the 11 days it was at the dealer but I declined, drove my old Camry instead.

Extended warranties can be a wonderful thing on modern vehicles. ;)

Very true.

Part of it is I’m kinda picky. Part of it, is I’m starting a series like Doug Demuro and his Range Rover it seems. $5k of it was new front control arms, which I didn’t seem to think were bad.

The dealership should throw in an extended warranty free on these! Just to keep their shop busy.
I find its strange that many luxury cars have such poor parts spec'd for them. You would think the manufacturers would have some padding with the price of them to atleast make they as reliable as a regular car?

I think one thing is, it's not a high volume production car like an Elantra or Sonata. My 2015 Sonata (same year) was practically flawless at 108k miles.

How much did the warranty cost you? I'm sure you are way ahead at this point.
$3,300, it’s a Hyundai extended warranty. There were much cheaper options in the aftermarket warranty world, but I didn’t want that headache dealing with them.
