For my new truck: AAP had a 5 qt PPennzoil Conventional plus Purolator Classic for $15.75 with coupon...although I had to buy the 6th qt at regular price.

I guess I'll leave the factory fill in for about 1000 miles and then put in the Pennzoil Conventional 5w20 for the rest of the 5K mile OCI.
(Advice from my mechanic buddy to change the potentially gritty first oil at 500-1000 miles)
After that 5K total, I'll go back to synthetic.

Sound like a plan?

That'd exactly how I would do it, and did with Subaru, although I only ran the dino first change out to 4K.
The '99 Accord and the Aerostar both got Syn from the first change at ~1K.
No break-in problems with either, and consumption remained low enough on the Aero that no make-up oil was required up to its untimely demise at the hands of one of my sons at 176K.
The '99 Accord also uses negeligible quantities of oil.

Then that's what I'll do...run the FF for 1K, and Dino the next 4K (Recommended OCI is 5K) then synthetics starting at 5K.

Thanks for the opinions guys!
