Finally decided to tackle this job. There has been mild seepage for probably at least a few years I imagine. When I bought it a year and a half ago back from a friend who bought it from me, one of the items on my to do list.

From 0 to 26k, unknown history. 26K to 131k, The car primarily had 5K synthetic oil changes, with a couple of conventional. Also had a 3000 mi run with a half a pint of MMO. From 131K to 247K, That's when my friend owned it. He did not really keep good records, but said it was mostly synthetic every 5 to 7.5 k and occasionally up to 10k. Shortly after I got it back, it had a can of 109 run through it. It is currently on its first interval of Valvoline Restore and Protect, 2000 miles in.

Looks really good in my opinion. Some mild varnish below the cams, and near the edges. Not much for the Valvoline Restore and Protect to do in the way of top end cleaning but using it for the piston ring cleaning potential. Car uses about a half a quart every 3- 3,500 by my estimation. I intentionally did not clean the valve cover in case I pull it after three or four intervals and see if there is any difference (although I think that would be a difficult place to clean).

Enjoy, absolutely love these motors.

Looks really good! Less varnish than my ‘05 when I did the valve cover gasket couple of years ago. That 1ZZ will keep running forever - however you’ll be stuck at 299,999 miles forever once you get there ;)
Ah yes, I've heard about that. I'll have to bust out the log book 😁
Looks clean. I’m surprised it burns a little bit of oil.
Yes me too. It runs really great. We'll see what Valvoline Restore and Protect can do.
