Google Pixel announces New Phones

Maybe their more expensive phones are better. I'm running on a Pixel 6A right now and I've not been too impressed with any aspect of it. Battery life has always been meager, and at 2 years old, I just keep it plugged in all the time. Now. I look at stuff while riding the train to work, and I arrive to about 88% battery left. The camera takes so-so pictures. It's getting to be time for this one to go, but I don't know what I'll replace it with.

You have to determine what you need in a phone. For my simple tastes, I'm on a Motorola G Stylus (2025) It does everything I need and was less than $200!
Is a flagship? No. But just how much "flagship" does a person need?? I refuse to pay over $300 - $1,200 just because it has an apple on it or says: Samsung.

Sorry for the rant.... but I'm super glad I'm not getting caught-up in the marketing B.S. and never ending cycles of "It's more! It's better!! It's now this and you can do that!!" Unless you have a very specific "need" from a phone... they all pretty much do the same thing. Calls, text, take pictures etc.

This morning I got the final insult in my phone upgrade saga... The icing on the turd sandwich if you will ...
When I ordered the pixel 10, I did a trade in on the 8pro... They offered $500...
Got the trade in appraisal email this morning...
They're not giving me anything, and sending the phone back to me. Claiming "major LCD damage" when received.
Had to happen in shipping, when I dropped it off with UPS, it was in perfect condition, packaged in their packaging, exactly they way they said to do it... If I didn't know I'd had that phone for 2 years, I'd have sworn it was brand spanking new...
Wow, that is a horror. I would freak out. Im always concerned when we send off phones on a trade in. So far we have been lucky, hope it stays that way.
Hope this works out for you, maybe they made a mistake? Im sure you can check the serial number.

Motorola makes a really good mid-priced phone.

That's rough. Sorry to hear of your misfortune. This came as a recommendation and I've started doing this myself... When it comes to trading in phones or even sending in returns if it's a higher cost item, I make a video showing the condition as I package up the item. For phones, I start at the IEMI screen clearly showing the IEMI number of the phone. I'll also show the the battery status and camera function, and overall screen in perfect condition. Right after that, I show a factory reset being done to the phone. Then I power off and package it up in the trade-in box showing the shipping label. Lately, with the last couple trade-ins there was tamper resistant tape to affix over the box openings. I show that too. This doesn't take long if you have everything ready. This way, if there's an issue, you've got some fair footing to stand on should there be an issue. Knock on wood, I haven't had to use one of these trade-in videos and I have at least half a dozen trade-ins via the Google Store. Better luck if there is a next time.

They actually do! For the money, I don't think you can beat them. Their OS is so much better than the convoluted Samsung overlay. Menus and features are very vanilla. I've always had a good experience with Motorola phones.

Yeah, they get you coming and going.... I've been a long time Cricket customer and they upgraded me to the Moto G stylus for around $130. Great deal considering I stick with my phones for years and years or until they don't hold a battery charge. (Another scam the they perpetuated on the public. - Non replaceable batteries.)

To each his own, but I never understood people waiting inline at the Apple store to get the "latest". I just don't get it. Then again, I remember life prior to ANY cellphone. And guess what? Life was GOOD!!!

I had my iPhone xr since 2018 battery was tired somehow I allowed the wife to convince me to upgrade to the 16 for my birthday. I get PO'd every time I see how many months are left until the phone is paid off. and I am itching to jump off tmobile but can't they hold your number hostage. wish the FCC would block that and at least allow cellular companies to replace your number with a new one so you could port your number to another carrier it would still keep the line active. they wouldn't be losing anything.

Yes, This also! It's also the manner in which they operate. The consumer IS paying for the phone. Most people can't afford a $1,000 phone. But.... If the carrier subsidizes and "hides" the payments, rolls them into a "plan".... of course consumers like this. To me, It's shady. Yes, there are those that say: "Free will! Don't buy the phone then!" But.... C'mon. Talk about instant gratification. I know this is off-topic... But... IMHO... I just don't understand what the draw is. What can a phone do five years into the future? Is it going to be that much better????

Bought the wife & I some used eBay Pixel 8 Pro's since they will receive updates into the 2030's.
I read your whole post, what a horror story. I can just see myself on the phone like you have been and still no resolution.
All I can say is this. USMOBILE.com
Simple stuff if you are wondering about coverage. They offer all major 3 networks. The cool thing is, besides their insane good prices once you are set up, using your online USMOBILE portal you can switch between the 3 networks on the fly. Simply by clicking and switching.
https://www.usmobile.com/help/articles/946304

Depending on the plan, some plans include free switching as some people prefer a network where they are but other times another.
If you dont have the free plan the other plans are only $2 each time you switch.

Hopefully once you resolve everything you will post your impressions of the Pixel 10
US Mobile has been good when I tried them but a common reminder that they will not refund you if paid annually after so many days.

You can pay the phone off early, unlock it through T Mobile (through the app I believe), and then port it out and keep that phone. Had no problems doing that when we switched to us mobile after their arbitrary rate hike.

Had a Pixel 6. It was ok, but I hated that there was no option for a normal Gallery, only Google Photo that forces backups constantly.

Upgraded to Pixel 9, that was even worse. Forced every Google app on me under the sun. Way more invasive and annoying than any Android I had before. Camera was nice, but that's all. Then constant 5G issues started. I had to flip "Airplane Mode" on/off anywhere between 3-30 times per day just to get the 5G to work. It had signal, but wouldn't load nothing and act like no access to internet, until I flick the "Airplane Mode". That was the last straw for me.

Screw Pixel forever. Between Pixel 6 and 9 and its Google Photo only option - roughly 500 of my pictures vanished without a trace as the backups would glitch often. Gone from phone AND Google Photo backup. I'm talking once in a lifetime pictures and videos of my kids in their infant-baby-toddler stages. Very upset about that still. It really made me miss my LG V-series phones.

Now back on Galaxy. Got S22 Ultra and am very happy to be in control again. Non-invasive Android, very capable, and MUCH better camera than the Pixel.

Just my couple pennies on the topic, your experience may vary.
I had to finally break down and order a new phone. My Samsung Galaxy S8 edge plus has the battery swelling, very low battery life and the back is delaminating. T Mobile offered me $620 towards the prime of a new Samsung if I traded in my old phone. Then knocked me down from $85/month to $65/month. I should have a new Samsung Galaxy S25 delivered by Monday. My only gripe is that cellphone manual have removed the physical headphone jack (and internal fm radio tuner). I found a usb c adapter for headphones.

It’s an option

I miss the FM tuners on phones. My latest one that had it was an LG V30. The one before it was a Nokia Lumia 1020. And Galaxy S8 was the phone that made me a Galaxy fan a long time ago.

Same here, actually exactly what we did except we fulfilled our 2 year agreement with T-Mobile so didnt have to pay off. Unlocking the iPhone 13 phone was easy with T-Mobile. Actually we unlocked two iPhone 13's from T-Mobile within minutes of each other.

I think worth mentioning. If one prefers Android devices US Mobile is offering a killer deal on a Pixel 10 for $419 if you take an annual plan, or $469 if on any of their plans. Its says limited time. Love my iPhone 15+ barely 6 months old. Sometimes I just feel like a change but I wont. My wife has a 3+ year old iPhone 13... maybe she would go for it or the pixel pro for $669

I wish several of the Linux distros would get together and release a true competitor to Android's and Apple. There are a few like Pinephone, and a new Debian phone that looks great.

Yes! A true competitor to the Android/Google ecosystem would be really welcome. I have an old OnePlus phone that I converted to a Lineage OS. It basically strips away the google nonsense and constant updating. My battery lasts for over a week now and that's using the phone normally. Less telemetry and phoning home all the time. And... FOSS. It's amazing to me how many users don't check permissions on the software they download from the "protected play store". It's atrocious as to what a simple app wants permissions for.
