Google Pixel announces New Phones

I wonder if it will take graphene OS
It appears the Pixel 10 will accept GrapheneOS...

Although, Google has been jacking around with AOSP so it's hard to tell how much longer until Google locks down Android making it closed source. With the gaining popularity of de-Googled Androids, the Alphabet Corp. does not like it. GrapheneOS is currently in talks with an major OEM to secure a new phone that meets their stringent security specifications which is estimated to be a year or two out.

As for myself. I prefer a physical SIM card which the US version of the Pixel 10 does not have. My plan as of late is to trade-in my Pixel 6 for a Pixel 9 and then wait for Graphene's new reference device to be released and adequately proved out before I buy one. Graphene says they will still support Google Pixels as long as they can.

Totally subjective but my wife took a picture with her base Pixel 7. She showed the picture to a friend nearby who only uses Apple phones. The friend was amazed at the picture quality and wanted to know what kind of a phone it was.

Forget the hardware for a second... what about the Google OS and how they are locking down the OS, installing more and more "for your protection" spyware.
"Ohhh but the camera's and so forth are really good!!"' Okay.... keep buying Google phones then.

What spyware are you talking about, and compared to what phone?

Hence the previous post(s) in this thread regarding GrapheneOS. The only way to operate an Android phone is a de-Googeled Android phone where Google has been stripped out of operating system. You want to see a truly bloat-free phone, that's one with stock Google stripped out of it. And this is the only reason I buy Google Pixels.

BTW, one can still run the Google Pixel Camera on a de-Googled Pixel with all network and app privileges turned off or blocked.

Also, airplane mode truly does turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and cell connectivity, which is generally not the case on any other mobile device.

What would be this purpose? Security? If so you can program iPhones to do the same.

With that said Apple will do the same but one extra step that will be remembered the next time you use it. Should you also want Bluetooth turned off on an iPhone when in Airplane mode, you enter airplane mode then turn off bluetooth.
Anyway, once you do turn bluetooth off in airplane mode it will remember that setting and turn off all 3 whenever using airplane again.
  • Turning on Airplane Mode turns off all radios except for Bluetooth—you can’t make calls, but you can listen to music, play games, watch videos, and use other apps that don’t require network or phone connections. If you turn off Bluetooth while you're in Airplane Mode, your device will remember that and will turn off Bluetooth the next time that you turn on AirPlane Mode.

Because privacy should be a right and not a special privilege.

Q: "Does Airplane Mode Turn Off Location?"

A: "No, airplane mode doesn't automatically disable all location-sharing apps, but it does impact their functionality."

Since iOS is closed-source software, one can tow the line of corporate double-speak, but reality is Apple is the worst spy device on the face of the planet. Whatever they do behind the scenes, nobody knows or can know.

...

... reality is Apple is the worst spy device on the face of the planet.

This is an empty statement with no factual information and we all know android is the most leaky system on the planet.
I wont comment further. Anyone concerned can do their own research.

Here is a primer from the ANDROID AUTHORITY which is of course biased towards Android hence the name.

Now from a neutral source a clear winner.

"Ernestas Naprys, a journalist at Cybernews, an online publication that identifies and reports on cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities, conducted an experiment by installing the top 100 apps in the German App Store on a fresh iPhone and a fresh Android phone. He then left the devices idle, and noted how often they contacted foreign servers, as well as where those servers were located."

BTW_ I dont really care honestly, we all buy what we like, except for misleading statements. Anyone can check if that is a concern when picking a phone

Choices are good, chose wisely if a concern. Boatloads of information online (for others concerned here) I chose a system, phone, desktop, laptop, watch. Not just one product.

doesn't matter apple or android they're both spying on privacy. if your phone connects to a wireless cellular network its giving out location you are never off the grid with any cellular device.

Here's one of many articles on the web - https://www.wired.com/story/google-android-pixel-showcase-vulnerability/

And this one - https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdof...pixel-9-pixel-9-pro-pixel-9-pro-fold-release/

There are "apps" on these phones that absolutely get updated (without your knowledge) and run constantly in the background.

Google collects data like almost every phone on the planet. Installing a privacy ROM would basically strip all the "bad stuff" out and leave the basic functional OS intact. Graphene OS for example. Until recently, the Google phone was one of the few phones that was available that "allowed" this option to be used. Now.... Google is saying they don't like this and are locking down their phones. Let's face it... if you're on ANY phone, you're data is being monitored/used/mined etc.

When people say they don't mind if this happens... I say.... Let me listen to all your conversations when you call and read your texts etc... I'm just listening. :)

There's literally dozens of posts on the subject. It is what it is at this point. I actually use Lineage OS on an older phone. It's truly amazing how long my battery lasts (for weeks!) and how snappy the phone is. What does this tell me??? That Google's OS is nothing more than a data-mining driven piece of software. Kinda' like Windows 10/11.....

Yea, my friend and I have had ads come up from stuff my friend and I talked about - like verbally talked about too.

Just received our pixel 10 pro and pixel 10 pro XL's today.

anyone in the market for mint condition fully protected/scratchfree pixel 9 or pixel 9 XL ? ;)

One thing I didnt know.. they said only the pixel 10 Pro XL got the speaker upgrade but the pixel 10 pro also has 2 bottom speakers?!
I might have considered the regular size one for myself instead of the XL.. as I didnt really need the 128 to 256GB storage upgrade.

No good trade-in values?

Yes. Google doesn't even try to hide this anymore. In fact they put a lable on it as their new AI feature called Magic Cue. Super creapy. Hard to believe people want this stuff and are happy to have it running on their phone... "We Are Everywhere."
