Google Pixel announces New Phones

You're the first person to ever use Samsung and "non-invasive" in the same statement. Bloatware king for Android OS IMO.
Yea. Samsung has made it impossible to control your own device via rooting or alternative ROM installation for years. Pixels are overwhelmingly regarded as the most readily modified (unless the carrier prevents it, specifically verizon).

Same, but I'm losing track of the releases now. I thought the 9 came out this year and not last Aug :o.

I just want the smallest, cheapest phone with wireless charging.
Well its not the cheapest but google fi has the 2025 folding razr for 349.
otherwise the pixel 9a probably fits that fairly well.. esp. if you want something that lasts and gets updates.

Honestly, I'm more excited for my Unihertz Titan 2. Not sure I'll make it my DD phone, but for $260 on preorder I had to check it out.

I'm a basic user, not a techy modifier. For my usage case - it is WAAAAY less invasive than either of my Pixels were.
Judging by y'all's responses - things may be different once software or hardware gets modified. But that's not my usage case, so I wouldn't know. I activate the phone and use it as is, and at that - this Galaxy wins for me.

Same. I have a Pixel 7. Still performs very well. Battery has not degraded thanks to charge settings. My wife prefers pics from my phone over her Iphone 16 Pro.

I will see what trade in deal they offer on Black Friday on the 10 before deciding. I went from a 6 to a brand new 7 for only 20 bucks on their Black Friday when the 7 was new. Couldn´t beat the deal, even though the 6 was only a year old and still great.

If they don´t offer a good trade for BF, I´ll wait one more year and either get a 10 at a discount or go for the 11 when it comes out.
I'm just about 2 years into my 7a. I like the smaller profile. It's been flawless and takes great pictures and it works perfectly with my Pixel tablet. I really liked my LG Velvet but it's relegated to being a backup. I'd get another Pixel in a heartbeat if they come out with one similar in size to the 7a. I don't like carrying a tablet sized phone.

I'm with you. I'm still rolling along with pixel 5 (perfect size for me). Thankfully still getting security & bug/feature updates from lineage.

I just looked at the 8a and 9a because this thread made me curious. Looks like the 8a is not very different/improved but the 9a becomes a bit more interesting but it's a tiny bit bigger. 8a and 7a are the same size.
I'll wait a few months. Google Fi is my carrier and they seem decent in terms of offering good deals for existing customers.

What do people think of the folding phone? Two questions:

1) are they annoying when all you need is a regular phone?.
2) can they replace a tablet?

I had a coworker who got the first Samsung folding Galaxy, and another one who just got the new Samsung one. Imo, they're alright. I guess if you need the screen space go but right now they're in an odd place between tablets and phones, kind of like how tablets filled the gap were between phones and laptops (except I find users hate tablets after using them.) But I still can't wrap my mind over bendable screens.

I suspect it really depends on the brand of folding phone. Im not up to date on them, I do like the idea.
I have my first slightly larger phone and I am surprised how easy I got use to it. (non folding) But for a non folding I wouldnt go any larger. iPhone +

I dont know how any of them could replace a tablet but everyone is different. Heck I post most times in BITOG on a 27 inch monitor. So a folding phone to replace a device wouldnt work for me. However I know I am not typical.

I found this article and I am sure many more if you do a search

I don't get the point of a tiny phone and tablet. My larger phone serves the purpose of both. Also don't get the point of a tablet with a detachable keyboard, why not just get a small laptop?

That's exactly what my tablet users said, there's no point of having a tablet by itself for their tasks (filling out documents/PDFs out in the field) because the screen is too small to do anything productive, so by adding a keyboard they might as well use their laptops instead and use their phones for checking emails on the go since the tablet is too big to carry on themselves

My new Fire 10" tablet has surprised me in the readability the screen has. I have one windows 11 ready computer. But I think the tablet will fill in nicely for my old Acer when the october expire of windows 10 updates end. Its fast enough for me, (but not for the computer snobs) and have tested it on many sites including BITOG.

Pixel 7 is supported for 5 years, until Oct 2027.
Pixel 8 and newer is supported for 7 years.
(When I had a Samsung it had lots of bloatware and very few updates and seriously behind Google’s Android version.)

For what it’s worth I have a pixel 8 pro xl phone and an iPad Pro 12.9 with data sim. Those are on Project Fi.
The iPad, with an external keyboard, is what I’ll bring when I want a mobile computer. I spend most of my time at home on it too, with no external keyboard.
Use a PC workstation for document scanning, VMs, day long training.

More thoughts ... ha!

As much as I hate Google as a company. If I wasnt so into the Apple world the non foldable Pixel would be my go to cell phone if I was looking to go back to Android. I wouldnt consider any other Android phone. The reviews are generally stellar on par with Apple.

However with Apple, every thing I do is sync'd between my iPhone, Apple desktop and laptop. Example, passwords, second authorization texts, photos etc. I get bored with electronics though, over time and I guess phones as we know them have really gone as far as they can, except for small improvements year to year.

Yet that new Pixel 10 foldable coming out may change the game, I think the cost, well, foldable phones seem to have a problem being accepted. I like the idea but what do I know.

I haven't used one but would be worried about longevity.

Based on some users photos here, it appears the Pixels have the best cameras, something that is very important to me. iPhone seems to have really let things slide and maximize profit per phone by barely updating the platform and not innovating like others. No 8K camera in 2024?

All of that stuff is synced with Google. Here's the amazing part - I'm not locked in to just Google devices. It syncs with Windows, Linux and Apple devices!

Apple can keep their overpriced crap.
