Goodyear ditches Dunlop

For the first replacement tires on my BMW motorcycle I went with Dunlop Road Smart IV tires. They had a good rep on their new Sport Touring tires. The steering characteristics are better than the original Bridgestone Battlax T30 Evo's. Hope they last as long.

Story how to destroy a brand.
In Europe in 90’a they had astonishing snow tires.
(y) I really liked the Dunlop Wintersport SPs I had on my Cobalt. I went through two sets of them.... I may be mis-remembering but I think they were made in Germany.

For many years Dunlop was a big name in tires for imported cars. The last USA plant I can recall was in Buffalo where they've had labor strife recently. In the 1990's Dunlop also made tires under the Centennial and Remington brands, both of which I owned in 60 profile tires. I'd say that the onslaught of Asian made tires has hastened Dunlop's demise.

We have five sportbikes, all are on Dunlop Q5 tires, except for the Ducati which has Pirelli Super Corsas. When warm weather returns, the Ducati will get Q5 or Q5S tires, too.

The Sport Touring Roadsmart IV tires you have are well regarded by guys I know who rack up miles.

Had some bike tires for my Shadow 600 that were dunlops. Decent tires for what i payed. I think they were called American Elite. Also had a pair of Dunlops on the Mitsubishi that were nice and grippy. Went to replace them a few years ago and had a bear of a time finding those ones. Got the Kelly equivalent and they were better in grip, noise and price. Only Dunlop option was the Direzzas and really couldnt justify the price and them being summer only tires.
