I spent $20,600 in December 2019.

The transmission mount was definitely bad, shifting felt clunky but after replacement it was silky smooth. Definitely worth it for that one, it wasn't that expensive though.

I've replace mine, they're easy to do, about 20 minutes. Did that price include the extended warranty? How much was the extended warranty?

Did you suddenly become fearful that the car was just beginning to roll off a maintenance cliff with the warranty expiring?

Observation: You must've had a great relationship with the Hyundai dealer for him to preemptively replace the items you listed (or did they indeed fail?). Just askin'.

Nick you sound like a Subaru owner. $11,000.00 in 6 years, but it was a great car.

Extended warranty was an extra $3,300. Covered for an extra 6 years/75k miles until 135k.

I just moved on to bigger and better things.

No fear of repairs with the Genesis. I was hoping to make a Doug Demuro style tally list of repairs like he did with his Range Rover.

I had a good service advisor.

There is one thing I hated about the Genesis. Changing the oil. 2 huge belly shields, and about 8 plastic clips and 14 bolts to take them off. They go all the way to the back of the transmission.

And a Mityvac will only pull out less than 1/2 of the 8.5 quart capacity. And you still have to take off the front belly shield.

Yeah but it was $2.6k in the end. The warranty covered that $11k of (questionable) repairs, and in the end, $20.6k - 18k trade-in for a net cost of $2,600. To drive a car he liked. [Probably had tires and other costs, plus ins, reg etc.].

$2,600 over a year and a half of ownership, 28k of driving, for less than 10c/m depreciation? It usually takes me 10 years to hit that kind of cost per mile. That vehicle ain’t for me, and I sure would be miffed at so many repairs, but on a TCO basis? I’m not so sure he did so bad.

The cost per mile is great however if another car purchase is involved just guessing cost per mile is going to be either need to be averaged over two vehicles or the next one is going to be pretty expensive.

All prices are plus, tax, title, $499 doc fee, license and $1990.95 dealer adds on new vehicles only. $695 prep fee and $995 etching, window tint, and nitrogen on used vehicles only.

Is this normal for AZ??

Depends on the dealer.

Camelback Hyundai was like that. Also the Airpark Dodge dealer. But most others I’ve dealt with haven’t been all that bad. They do always want to add stuff on though.

I think the way the math works is that it's $995 plus $695 plus $499 for the doc fee so it's another $2190 for a used car and another $1990.95 plus $499 doc fee on a new car so the used car is just slightly cheaper than a new one. Probably not normal but maybe for pandemic pricing where they can get whatever they want. So even if you talk them down 4k, they still tack on that $2190 afterwards. Not bad, though if they get asking price, they make about 6k, they'll probably knock a little off.

Youre implying that Subaru cars aren’t reliable, and need lots of expensive repairs, but I didn’t find that to be true, at all, with my 2016 WRX that I owned for 3 years.

And I don’t know anyone who shares your opinion on that.

There are makes that have that sort of rep, but they’re European luxury vehicles, for the most part.

As far as Genesis/Hyundai/Kia, they’ve got some great-looking, innovative, and fun (car enthusiast-oriented, even) designs.

But, I do not believe their QC is close to matching that of the Japanese makes…yet.

Any one remember the Hyundai XG350L from 2005? It was the most expensive Hyundai at the time, we bought it new for about 24K in 05, and this was long before the Azera, Hyundai Genesis, and then the Genesis brand. Last i knew car had 190K miles in 2015 with minimum repairs.

TBH, the list repairs that you did to the Genesis seems acceptable for a car of that class....

Those were sweet cars!! I wonder if those older Hyundai cars were better? I never heard of any issues with them at all.
