Working at Costco for 20 hours a week isn't meant to be a job that provides for a family.
This country has lost it's way.
People used to work hard, work smart and work to achieve MORE IN LIFE, not work the bare minimum for the bare minimum just to get by and solicit sympathy. Entire families used to work to provide for the family. Did they complain? Probably....who wouldn't? But they weren't doing the minimum. The parents also raised their children so that the children understood that they were expected to work hard, acquire SKILLS (baby making isn't a skill), acquire knowledge and seek out jobs that they could use their skills and knowledge in order to be rewarded with competitive pay so they could provide for their family.
They weren't rewarded with government benefits for having kids they couldn't support.
Again, working in a warehouse picking up plastic packages and putting them in a cardboard box.....as directed by a COMPUTER isn't rocket science and it isn't a highly skilled position. In fact, the computer is doing all the brain work.
Like many have said, when the robots get there, the humans won't be. McDonalds and another burger joint in CA are proving that burger making/flipping does not require a human. It is being done 100% by a robot.
Just like menial welding is done in most factories today.
This is like people sending their kids off to college for a $125,000 degree in English in which the graduate wants to teach elementary school. It's not a secret that most teachers gripe and moan about teacher pay....because their union tells them to. It's gone on for decades if not centuries. But keep on sending your kid to college to be a teacher so they can get a $38,000 job and gripe about it. News Flash: Teachers make about $38-44,000 nationwide, starting out.
Warehouse workers make $9-12.50/hour
Most retail is minimum wage - $12/hour
The rates aren't going to go up because folks THINK people working those jobs SHOULD make more. It simply doesn't work that way.
