Starting on Nov 1st, its good to see Amazon raised their minimum wage to $15 an hour for their warehouse workers.... whether the workers are part-time, full-time or temporary seasonal workers.

A fast paced high volume warehouse should not pay $9 or $10 an hour where you have metrics to meet (picking orders or stocking merchandise) and constantly on your feet.

They will easily get it back when they increase the cost of a Prime membership.

I'm glad that a business that makes that much money doesn't need us feeding their workers. Amazonian welfare queen.

If you think we still aren't feeding a bunch of them you better think again!

Great news. It means they've read the market and reacted. I think nearly all of the positions at the nearby sorting facility start at $16 or more, but a minimum company wide $15 is a good thing. I would imagine you'd also move up as you invest time into working there.

I think they start around $17 in my area, but I heard it is a terrible company to work for. Not very flexible and working conditions and hours are bad.

.. and raise shipping fees for non Prime members, and increase listing fees for Amazon Marketplace sellers, etc... This is not a non-zero-sum game.

Purely a PR move. If Amazon or any other for profit company assumed a lower profit margin or less ROI to their shareholders by increasing base wages beyond the market value of the implied work duties, do you really think the company in question would do so? You're a fool if you don't think the user/consumer will ultimately pay a higher price for the increase in base wages at Amazon. C'mon man. You're smarter than that.

Henry Ford wasn't a saint for paying $5/day. It was brutally hard and boring work.

I'm betting the Amazon fulfillment centers are already paying $15 an hour if not a little more to begin with. The real winners with this are the store employees at Whole Foods which will be part of the $15 an hour
min wage, too.

This reminds me of fast food industry. Raising wage to $15 just meant introduction of kiosks and development of robotic burger flippers. The robots are coming, like it or not. Amazon just needs some time to make the transition.

A pay raise is always a plus no matter what job you are working. Some of those Amazon warehouse employees walk more than 10 miles a day picking orders. They should also have an incentive bonus to meet certain 'goals' that boost their pay 10-20%.

When I worked retail long time ago a Publix Supermarkets, even as a part-time employee (15 years old) every quarter I got a profit sharing bonus and end of the year Christmas bonus.

And yes.... the economy is strong and having more people working is a good thing. I sometimes post jobs in the Off Topic section.

^^This

ANY one who's willing to work deserves to be able to make a living. End all welfare and raise peoples' wages.

Amazon succeeds fine one its own. It's own leadership has led to its success not artificial boosts.

Companies will pay as little as they have to; that's capitalism.
Those people work hard; good for them.
With corporate tax giveaways, Amazon certainly can afford it.
Corporation profits have been on a long run; comparitivly wages are flat.

Since the recession ended in 2009, corporate profits have grown at an annualized rate of 6.5 percent. Wow!
Several sectors have done much better.

Yearly wage growth has yet to hit 3 percent. Oops.
With the new tax laws, the gap jumped.
