Good time to dump Honda factory fill?

I like to get all that extra Silicon out a new motor that factory fill has, early. Silicon can be a wild card on new motors it seems to vary a fair amount. I don't think anyone here likes to see high Silicon numbers in UOAs. Do a search under UOAs "Factory fill" you will see what I mean.

As much as newer vehicles are any more I change factory fill out under 1000 miles. Why roll the dice as to how much Silicon you are circulating around all those nice new engine parts?

Many years ago when I worked in a engine remanufacturing shop for a couple years I got to see 1st hand a couple examples of what dirt ingestion (Silicon) does to cylinder walls over many miles. You would be surprised how many miles a motor will go with no air filter on it. Most here would not try it but those high Silicon numbers in a factory fill is along similar line. Silicon is nothing I want in my motors for very long.

Sure early OCI of factory fill might not have an effect one way or another. But I feel much better about getting rid of factory fills sooner rather than later.

Here are the UOAs on my 05 Odyssey which includes the factory fill at 3400 miles or so. The factory fill looked very solid at the time. (TBN, VIS)

When I dumped that factory fill, I had noted that I could see 'gold glitter' in the drain pan as others have noted as well. I was glad to dump it when I did.

Thanks guys, i think I'll leave it in for a little longer than.

Strangely, my accord doesn't comes with OLM! Hummmm...... Lukey, does your accord come with one? Mine is a EX-L and it doesn't appear to come with one. At least I don't see anything that look like it on the dash.

before I even came to this site, I never heard of anyone changing "factory fill" out of the engine. My folks used to change oil every 3k including factory fill. never any oil related problems.

alright, I think none of the 05 accord coupes have OLM in them.

What is considered a high moly oil? I know the SM Havoline has a decent amount of moly in them. what else are there?

There is a world of difference between a remanufacturing shop and new engine production facilities. I've been to a couple new engine production facilities where it was so clean you could probably eat off the floor.

I bought a Honda Accord coupe with the 2.4L engine a month ago. I now have about 1800 miles on the engine and is considering to give it a oil change. Planning to give it Valvoline or Havoline 5w20 dino.

You guys think it's a good time? I know honda recommends letting the oil stay for a while, but I have always drained the factory fill at 1000 miles in for previous new cars.

Why waste oil and money? Change the oil and filter at 5000 mile intervals and have no worries.
