What's a good OTC brake fluid...easily available.

I've always used ATE 2K and currently have the blue fluid in stock. However, that's being reserved for a flush this late fall/winter. The current fill in the resorvior is ATE 2K Gold. The container is halfway between max and full since I had to bleed a caliper.

I just want to dump some *amber* brake fluid in there to top it off so that I when I do the *flush*, I can see the difference between the amber brake fluid vs. the dyed blue fluid.

Don't have any parts/stuff to order so I'm just planning to purchase brake fluid locally. I've always used ATE due to the high dry & wet points for a street car, with it's low hydroscopic properties.

Valvoline Synpower.
Having said that, I just used WalMart fluid in my Jeep.
At Walmart, when I got it, a quart bottle (32 ounces) was $3.19 or $3.59 -- something like that.
Three 12 ounces bottles (36 ounces) were $1.00 each. Goofy.

To my mind, brake fluid (not the racing stuff) is about the same. So I just buy a good brand on sale and replace it (Motiv bleeder) every year.

THE Valvoline Syn is good, I use ATE (Ah-tay) super blue, the type 200 amber is the same stuff, but used so you can alternate and know if you flushed the system. ATE is good, but it caused problems with old brake seals on my mazda rx-7. The ATE has good moisture absorption. I ordered it for $11/Liter.

+1 on Valv Synpower... It's in all 4 of my vehicles and seems to work well.

I agree.

It's all I've been using when I do brake changes on my vehicles or friends who need help doing their brake maint.

It's all I've ever used too. I bleed my brakes at least every two years and have never had any brake-related problems. My Ranger was 13 years old with 115k miles and never had a seal leak, a caliper piston stick or anything.

Is this due to the Synpower or the regular bleeding? Couldn't tell you, but I'm not changing my regimen...

thanks much,
ben
