I'll be traveling to Canada (Ontario - London and then Niagara Falls) in October, and want to know if there are any interesting oils I can pick up while I'm there that aren't available in the U.S. I'd be looking for 5w30 and 10W-40 for my vehicles. It's always cool to have my buddies ask me "Where'd you get that?!" when they look at my garage shelves.

I can't really tell you what oils are available here that aren't available in the US because, well, I don't shop for oil in the US very often!

I live in London, ON. If you need GC, there's lots here. That's about all I can tell you :/ Check places like Partsource, Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire. You'll have better luck finding "unique" items than I because of your perspective, let me know if there's anything special around town that you yanks don't have

^^ Of course we do, you hoser! Take off, eh?

Esso XD-3 0W30 or 0W40 are probably the big ones. Walmart should have it, at least the 0W40.

Canadian Tire is a big chain that has a few different house brands... they're not particularly spectacular but they may impress the local yokels back home.

I seem to recall Petro-Canada 0W30 getting rave reviews from someone...?

But really, seeing as oil costs at least twice as much up here, you'd probably do better loading up a few dozen jugs and selling them to fellow BITOGers on arrival.

If you travel down the 401 you can stop at a Petro Can and they will have the 0W30 and other oils there.
Bring lots of cash ...eh!!!
Actualy ....when in Canada always use your credit card to get the best exchange rates.
I'm just 20 min off the 402 north/west of Forest.

Try to get the canadian tire synthetic oil (motomaster F1) in the gold bottle. A few quarts of that would make your shelf much prettier.

Thanks, guys! I love my trips up north! I'm very familiar with Canadian Tire stores, so I'll have to check their oil section. Bummer about your oil prices, though! Maybe I'll create a Canadian oil "sampler" that I'll bring back with me. I love London. If I ever moved to Canada, that's where I think I'd end up. I guess I'll be heading back to the states with some oil and a box of Coffee Crisps (wish we had those candy bars here!).

Oh yeah, I think I have a few Canadian Tire dollars lying around somewhere. I'll try to scrape them together before making the trip!

This oil is cheap and works really good in winter. My car starts much easier with this one than with Mobil 1 SS 5w30 at -30°C (-22°F). Yes, it's cold up there, in Québec...

Don't forget to stop in to a Tim Horton's donut shop if you're a coffee drinker.

Order a double-double and a boston cream donut. You can thank me later!

Another Londoner here. =-) Never mind bringing oil up, a case or two of those cheap filters you guys can get would be the cats meow. How long you staying here? And when?

Alex.

Esso XD-3 and the Petro Canada oils are about all you'll find here that you can't find in the US. Everything else we have here, you've already seen where you're coming from. Walmart carries the Esso line of oils including XD-3 but not the famous 0w30 version of XD-3. Petro Canada oils are apparently only available from Petro Canada gas stations - nowhere else.

The Canadian Tire branded oils are from Shell, so nothing new there, just a different container.

Shopping for oil in Canada should make you appreciate just how much variety you have in the US and and how low your prices really are (or, how high ours are).

So if I can't find the Esso XD-3 in 0w30 at Walmart, where could I find it? Is it only available at Esso stations? Since Esso is part of the Exxon Mobil brand, is this just Mobil 1 in a different bottle? Just wondering.

Also, I'm not saying there aren't other great places in Canada! I've been to Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and all over Ontario. I still need to visit further east, though. I just really like London...nice city. Oh, and this will be a really quick trip. I'll be staying in London for only two nights, and coming back home on our Columbus Day (Canada's Thanksgiving Day).

No, not even at Esso stations. It seems to be only available at Esso distributors. And you'll be passing within a few hundred yards of one when you pass through St. Catharines on your way to Niagara on the QEW.

Strangely enough, no! This seems to be a made in Canada, only available in Canada oil.

You need to visit the Maritime provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island). It's a different world out there. The Cabot Trail on the coast of Cape Breton Island (Nova Scotia) - an all day scenic drive that you'll never forget. Prince Edward Island - clean, uncluttered, very little growth or development for decades .
