GMT 900 Front Fender Rust

Looks pretty good and your results are maybe a twenty footer.
Not a bad job at all.
The old girl is now seventeen after all.

I don’t have an angle grinder and instead used this 3M fiber wheel with my electric drill. It was totally satisfactory for taking down the rust to bare metal and for totally removing the built up rust where there no longer any firm metal left.

Nice work both my Jeeps need this done now!
As an alternative to using fiberglass, you can cut patch panels out of aluminized steel and use Eastwood's panel adhesive system, it makes a good strong repair, just rust proof the new areas. They make a flanging tool so that you can make the seam look nice and flat. 2 part epoxy adhesive & pop rivets. Very strong.

Here are a few shots showing rust low down on the front drivers side fender of a 2008 3/4 ton Suburban. This is very common in the rust prone Rocky Mountain area. The dirt gets packed into the lower part of the inside of the fender behind the fender liner. Replacement fenders are the easiest solution but run $400 to $500 each delivered. They were cheaper at Rock Auto but Rock wanted $ 1500 to deliver them. All prices are USD equivalent.

Here are a few shots showing the rust ground away revealing the dirt, the dirt that came out, the area cleaned up and the solid metal of the frame sprayed with Eastwood Rust encapsulator.

Looking for ideas. I don’t have welding skills but curious if anyone has worked with pre made patches etc. Note there is a set of running boards bolted to the bottom of the frame. Thanks.

I see the strategically located debris collection (oops I mean DRAIN) hole, designed to collect crap and result in the owner having to purchase a new fender....

If everyone knows where these vehicles rust, why aren't people spraying with a rust prevention products like NH Coatings?
I think I know the answer. They think the manufacturer took care of the problem and their vehicle will never rust. Others think they will sell the vehicle long before it ever rusts, so why spent money to make like better for someone else. Life happens and they still own the vehicle 10 years later and now it’s rusty.
