GM's 2.7L - Deep Dive

Can it alternate the cylinders that get shut down? such a design would help distribute wear evenly. As a guy who makes “design choices” in my realm, I’d be all over that. And if so, 2 cylinder mode probably wouldn’t bother me too much, unless it started to voice the signature of a riding mower. if it did that, in a sedan I might still be ok with the idea psychologically. But like many here, the thought of my truck running on 2 cylinders might not be something I could handle.
Yes. It alternates which cylinder's get shut down.

Yuck...I much prefer the cartridge style - so easy to inspect the pleats for debris and health of engine. Also, less impact to the environment.
Cartridge style oil filters do have the benefits you mentioned. It is the execution of how the housings are attached the engine block that I have a problem with......just ask many a BMW owner about how they developed leaks.

I was reading from something on another forum and a GM tech mentioned this was the 2nd GM motor to go past the 2 million mile mark on the dyno with very minor issues.

3rd Gen Colorado looks like it will be a reliable truck.

That is good news. Reading up to this point felt like 2 million miles ... 😵‍💫

I’m growing in my appreciation for a good, torquey, turbo 4. I spent some time in one last week (different make) and enjoyed the low pitch, low reving, higher torque dynamic.

Cylinder deactivation ...........sounds like future problems to me. How long have they been using that feature on this engine?

From the beginning, but its completely different mechanically vs the AFM/DFM in the 5.3 and 6.2 which is trashing engines pretty badly there.

I'm not a fan of this tech either, but it doesn't have to mean its going to trash your engine, its pretty bullet proof in the hemis for example.

Nicest mid-size on the market IMO.

Very nice truck Buster! Sometime soonish I'm in the market and this is a consideration. My only "concern" is how it is with a booster and a forward facing car seat but will have to test directly. Love that the Colorado/Canyon have the rear a/c vents.
