Well...maybe.....

hhr-1.jpg

"MSRP on our HHR is $19,885, but we would be willing to offer you factory invoice minus rebate for a sale price of only $17,057 based on a March delivery!"

Another 1000 off for military and GM $$......

Got me thinking.....just past 60K on the Matrix in just under 2 years (June 07 will be 2 years)

Still wondering if the HHR is up to those miles..have had a hard time finding one that had the 2 major options I wanted (fogs and running boards) without a ton of other options that I don't want (sunroof, ABS, 2.4 engine etc)

One plus..if I thought that oil changes on the Matrix were easy than I'll be in heaven with the HHR. Oil filter cartridge is right on top

AND more importantly.....it takes 5W30 so my stash of about 50-60 quarts of 5W30 would be safe

Pep Boys (if you have one in NH) sells those cartridge filters cheap too. Catch them on sale for $1.99 (Purolator). For some reason the parts stores around here sell them for more $$$.

Ack....

"Eligible military includes active duty members and Reserves of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, National Guard and Coast Guard. Must show a copy of military identification card. Take delivery by 1/2/08 on the purchase or lease of 2006 or 2007 new and unused models. Excludes Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV/EXT, DTS, STS, XLR; Chevrolet Corvette, Express, HHR; GMC Savana; HUMMER H1; Pontiac Solstice, Vibe; Saturn SKY. This offer may not be combined with other private offers. Certain restrictions apply. See your dealer for details."

Great...I can't use the 500 dollar rebate on the HHR.....3 flipping Chevys it can't be used on and 1 is the HHR

My brother had a 1986 Camaro Z28. Despite being a total piece of junk, it made it to at least 160,000 miles and more likely 260,000 miles given it's age.

What finally killed it is that the Borg-Warner T5 manual transmission wouldn't go into gear anymore. You'd put it in 1st, let out the clutch, and it would just sit there grinding away.

Military Incentive now available for the HHR and they have boosted it to $1000 for the month of May. Also got a notice in the mail that GM would add $250 to GM Card Earnings $$ (that would give me about 700 dollars) plus the regular 1500 dollar rebate and the 500 additional trade in bonus......wow all very tempting....car that has a Sticker of almost 20K could be had for under 15K..that is quite nice deal!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.......my payment would actually be less for a new car and 100K powertrain warranty.....very tempting

Run or run properly? I trust them to run for a long time but doubt that they will run as designed with out constant repair! Luckily parts are plentiful at parts stores andin salvage yards!

Despite my anger at dealers and corporate GM for their attitude regarding warranty repairs, I believe the basic general structure of my 2004 Silverado full-size pick up is such that it will likely last quite awhile.

I don't abust the thing and it is a beefy vehicle. Lots of hard metal in the frame and suspension. Engines are supposed to be rugged and long lasting and the auto tranny seems to last as long as any other auto tranny as long as it isn't abused.

Generally, I believe pick ups will last longer due to their "heavy duty" build compared to a passenger vehicle.

There is a cost in mileage due to propelling 5,000 pounds down the road but that weight is the result of beefy components that should last for quite a spell.

My dad's 95 s10 automatic, 4.3 V6 has 401,000 on it, No problems other than a few very minor things here and there, pulleys, thermostat, alterantor etc.. Regular Maintence, tune up every 50000, transmission flushed every year, oil changed every 3000 with pennzoil 10w40

I've become increasingly more frustrated with internet know-nothings who badmouth GM and other American made cars and some of them don't even have the mechanical aptitude to do a brake job or other simple repair. GM is at least as good as any import on the road. Check fuel mileages at www.fueleconomy.gov. Don't take my word for it. GM has some of the best in class gas mileages. 100K warranty is another no brainer for buying GM. The HHR or Ion, Cobalt with the 2.2 auto will be at least as dependable as any import on the road w/o exception. You just pay less.

I still drive my '88 k2500 pickup every day, went through the motor because I wanted to (cam, headers, etc), not because I had to. it's on it's 3rd trans since I got it (the first rebuild grenaded in less than 3 weeks). No other major problems, any minor ones can be contributed to it being almost 20 years old.

my dad had an ECLB '88 C1500 that he put around 450,000 miles on before the rear-end broke.. that truck wasn't treated nicely either.

It all depends on how you drive the vehicle and how you maintain it. In general, Japanese cars hold up the best in the long haul, usually Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, Nissan and Mazda.

so my little brother's hand-me down buick park ave is going to self destruct in less than 10k miles? it's a '95 with 240k and has no issues what so ever except for the broken cup-holder in the flip down console. car has zero rust either, which is amazing considering I live in Maine.

Kind of off topic, but my mom just had the dreaded GM intake manifold gasket problem, at only 54k miles (it's a 2003). Simply a shame. That car is absolutely horrible, say what you will about GM improving, but this car is a MESS. Everything's going wrong on it. Brakes twice, Rotors twice, Seatbelt is missing a piece, Random interior falling apart, locks need to be reprogrammed for no reason, intake manifold gasket, fuel pump, fuel injectors constantly getting plugged, 3 new fuel filters, random rattling noise from under the hood, whistling noise, headlights improperly aligned 3 times, failed resistor in climate control, steering wheel is locked in upright position and won't come back down, one wheel weight randomly fell off, I could go on and on and on. This car's only 4 years old, too. And she drives it like a grandma. Yuck
