I don’t know if this has been addressed, if so I apologize, I cannot find a thread. The recommended GM lube I need is 89021677, superseded by 88900401, which is a quart size. Is part number 88861719 a gallon size of the same product?

Thanks.

Both are synthetic 75w90 GL-5 gear lubes. From the descriptions on gmpartsgiant.com, the one is a quart container and the other is a gallon container.

If you can't find them locally, any full synthetic GL-5 75w90 gear lube will work.

Interesting. There is no cross reference for GM or ACDelco part numbers? Both labels read exactly the same, but I can not find any solid reference in any site. I can’t even find any reference to GM specification 9986115..

I’m a long term GM buyer … but never found their gear oil for a decent price … Dexron yes, gear oil no.
So - just never used it.
Have you found it for a competitive price compared to Mobil 1 or Valvoline at AZ ?

3 quarts of 88900401 at eBay for $47.99 and 1 gallon of 88861719 at Amazon for $48.85.

I doubt that you'll find a cross reference for a part number for the GM quart containers to the GM gallon pails. One has to go by the written specifications. Some place there might be a product information sheet for the gear lube that shows where it comes in quart containers under the 88900401 part number and gallon containers under the 88861719 part number. The product sheet, if it exists, might be for in-house GM use. It might also be for use in GM Dealership parts departments.

I use either Mobil 1 or Amsoil 75w90 Long Life full synthetic gear lubes in my 99 Silverado and 04 TrailBlazer without concern since they both meet the GL-5 75w90 specification which the GM lube also meets. You can use any full synthetic 75W90 GL-5 without worry. The last time I purchased 75w90 GL-5 gear lube, I purchased 3 quarts of the Amsoil for just under $33.00.

I would prefer to have the extra $14 or $15 dollars in my pocket than in a parts store's coffers.

Amazon just raised the price of the 88861719 (1 Gal) to $60.27. Amsoil is around $18. a quart, Redline is $22 I think? Looks like the 3 qt for $48 is my best deal now.......

I ended up using Mobil 1 75W-90 in the rear end of my 04 Silverado, but was also considering Valvoline as well as Supertech.
