GM L84 5.3L DFM Engine Oil 0W-30 A Good or Bad Idea?

It gets 0f in New Mexico just about every year, some times I see -10f. I run 5w in anything I plan on having to starting in the morning, but if it gets -10f I'm calling in sick to work and won't have to worry about getting my junk started.
Any 0w-30 I could get I would have to pay shipping on or buy it at an auto parts store and they're going to want at least $40 a gallon for it and I think they only have one selection in 0w-30.
Walmart has M1 0W-30AFE on the shelf, less than $30 for a 5qt jug (at least in Texas). Cold weather isn't a thing where I live so that's what I just put in my 2020 Silverado 5.3L. It has the same dexos rating as the 0W-20 I was using before, but now that the warranty is long gone I figure the extra bit of high-temp viscosity can't hurt here in the tropics.

Absolutely do it. I have a 2024 Tahoe with an L84, it has seen Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 (15-30 degree cold starts end of winter) and now it is on Mobil 1 Euro FS 0W-40.

No problems whatsoever, quieter top end. Dealer actually comments on how quiet of a 5.3 I have.

I'm staying on 0W-40.

My example of M1 5W-30EP has a pour point of -49ºF and meets the 5W-xx requirement for:

An MRV (Mini-Rotary Viscometer) of -35°C (-31°F) (60,000 cP) Note: Many synthetics will be far less viscous in this test, guess 20,000.
and Cold Cranking Simulator (CCS) -30°C (-22°F)

In the end, the CCS number is a good measure of where the both the engine will crank freely and the oil will pump quickly enough to not have a delay in oil pressure rise. So any 5W-xx oil will start reliably at -22ºF

But it is good to know that some synthetic oils perform remarkably well in extreme cold conditions. With higher end or boutique 5W-30 oils having pour points around the -75ºF range!
I think gf 7 is lowering the limit from 60k to 40k so low temp oil discussions should be less fuss going forward. But hdeos and other non gf 7 oils won't change.

2020 GM L84 5.3L DFM Engine Oil 0W-30 A Good or Bad Idea? With all of this 6.2L L87 issues that are going on and GM suddenly saying 0W-40 is an option, what are peoples opinions of putting 0W-30 in the 5.3L L84?
2022 Sierra 5.3L L84 126K mi. Change oil every 6K with 0W20. Burns ½-to-1 qt between oil changes. Only time it never burnt a drop is when I added Lubegard Biotech Engine Treatment. But, it’s ½ the price of an oil change. Cheaper to add make-oil. Last 5 oil changes I used Castrol Edge, only $23.97 for 5 qt jug at Walmart now. Getting ready for oil change #21.

Last oil change I switched to Amsoil Signature 0w-40 in my 2024 L84 Sierra 1500 with 12k miles. I too was concerned with all this L87 talk. My engine now has significantly less valvetrain noise and MPG is roughly the same. If it's good enough for the LT4 and now L87 with recall it's good enough for the my L84. 5w30/ 0w30 is fine for your truck. However I would just look at 40 weight oils since theirs a bunch now recently certified Dexos R overnight at affordable prices at Walmart.
