I was against this 2.7 for the longest time. I have the old reliable 5.3 in both my vehicles before AMF.
I may be looking to buy a new silverado at the end of the year.
Cost wise you can get into a 2.7 for almost 10k less then a 5.3 due to rebates, packages ect. and the 5.3 now is no where near as reliable as the old ones.

Just wanted to know how many miles
you guys have on your 2.7 turbomax?
How often you change the oil ?
Do you run the recomended 5w30 ?
Any problems so far ?

Thanks all

Even without the big discounts it's still about a thousand or two less msrp wise and even if it gets 1 mpg less there's still savings in there.

If I owned one it'd be getting very frequent changes at 3k or less and better than dexos oil to help it all last longer. I believe turbo dohc gdi engines can last if made well and maintained extra well.

The company I work for is a heavy civil construction company mainly dealing in tunneling, bridge repair, and concrete paving. We have hundreds of pick up trucks most are three-quarter ton or one ton but we also have a large amount of half ton trucks for office personal, maintenance, safety and foreman trucks. We mostly buy Chevy trucks and all the half tons for the last three or for years, have the 2.7 and the motor has been flawless better mileage than the V-8‘s. Had zero issues with the 2.7. We will continue to buy any half ton with the 2.7 engine. They work awesome great power with no issues. Fleet trucks are not babied they idle all day and most of the drivers pound on them so if somethings wrong with the truck, it’s gonna show up for us. Oil changes are based on the OLM. We change at 10-20% and use Baldwin filters with Napa brand 5w30 synthetic oil. Some trucks on the job are changed whatever the local quick lube joint puts in cheap filters, but always 530 synthetic not brand specific. FYI, the 2.7 GM trucks also come with eight speed which has been pretty bulletproof for us versus our three-quarter tons with a 10 speed that have a lot valve body issues over the past two years.

We have six company trucks with the 2.7 , no issues so far , oldest of them is two years old with 57,664 miles on it.
Standard maintenance with the 5W30 at quick lube places per the maint minder system .
Only thing I've implemented was servicing the 8 speed transmission every 30k miles.

I watched one video that says you have to drop the exhaust system to remove the transmission pan.
That really sucks. If that's the case i can't remember what configuration that truck was 4x4, 2wd extra cab standard cab.I can't remember.

The V8 has a cross-over pipe - no reason that an I4 would ?

I had one as a loaner for a week. I kick myself for not getting that Silverado 2.7T over the Malibu every time i see one on the road. Smooth, enough power, good acceleration and no 4-cylinder rattle noises.

Next time! 😁 They are pretty sweet little engines. First time I drove one wasn't too impressed(something with the truck I believe in hindsight). The next time was a totally different experience; very torquey little guy.

Your 1.5 rattles as in a rattle sound or a rattle feel? Looks like a big red bottle with a V and 20w-50 on it is calling its name. I'd throw that in it and see what happens. I wonder if a heat shield or plate is loose and makes a rattling sound.

We have several as plant trucks. I think the oldest is 2020. They get short tripped to death, just driving around the plant, with occasional off site use to fuel up, etc. I don't think the 2020 has 10K miles on it and maybe has had one oil change? Fleet maintenance is by the book at best. I drive them occasionally. Other than sounding like my Equinox at start up, they do have great power. You can definitely hear the turbo zing on them.

No, not really. Just when you give it the beans like most 4-cyl. This 1.5 is actually a great engine as far as smaller displacement 4-cyl go. But the 2.7 is on another level and never sounds thrashy.

I see what you mean. the old 2.0 8v VW engine in my forklift was like that with 5w-30 but I run 20w-50 since it never gets cold enough for it to not pump easily and I want it to heat up a little bit faster since I don't run it that long and when I rev it out it barely makes that noise anymore but it did have a some rattle sounding roughness with 5w-30

I have 27K on my 2024 Canyon. I change the oil between 4-5K using Valvoline Restore and Protect Full Synthetic 5W30, and PPE filter.

Guys in the northern states or Canada- when winter idling (-20C) does the engine cool off and not maintain temp? I would think that he ecu would increase idle rpm to maintain 95C coolant.
