Citing anything other than recent black book numbers is erroneous. I understand why Nada exists, it allows financial institutions to justify making a loan for more than true actual value, this can pass an audit/ bank examiner.
I am very confident Carmax only used black book as part of its valuation process when it buys vehicles from consumers. No nada, no KBB for CarMax when CarMax is the buyer.
