My part time job has me delivering roof trusses with a roll off trailer like this.

http://prattinc.com/products/truss-trailers/expandable-truss-trailer/

Once I'm empty I need to roll the rollers untill the locking pin finds the locking hole in the roller. To do this I must climb up onto the trailer and use my foot.

Im not real thrilled about climbing onto the trailer plus its not easy to get up there. Any ideas how I could lock the rollers from the ground?

Man, those are some nice trailers. I'm confused? Is this an expandable trailer and you need to return it to a non-loaded/ non-expanded length or are you just trying to keep the rollers (that are under the load) from spinning while the trailer is empty / loaded. Could you use a strap wrench to spin the roller just enough till the locking pin engages? OR are you talking about the strap rollers you use to fasten down your load.

Buy unfinished leather strip from EBay, throw it over the roller from the ground, and rotate the roller. The backside of an old timing belt may grip better.

You can't reach those from the ground? Is it elevated when you lock the rollers?
If I didn't want to get on the trailer, I'd just find an old broom and wrap it with some non-skid material; something like a non-skid tool mat. Then you can easily spin the rollers with the broom.

it actully yakes a lot to roll them with the pin dragging till it falls into the hole.

once empty I have to lock them before I put the next load on it.

they have to be locked when I put a load on it. If I dont lock them the next guy might not check them and end up dumping trusses in the street.

I see this often- Everyone I see gets up on the trailer- even real old gents. I can see how it would be tiring and or difficult for some.

Well, this and a step stool. Either to climb up on the trailer or to see if you can do it using the belt or leather strap.
