GC seals broken

Just picked up 4 qts. of GC at one of the local AZ's. Was on sale for $4.49 each. Am amazed at how many qts. had the seals broken on them. At least 4 of the bottles had this occurence. AZ told me that they are continuing to stock it until they hear otherwise. Wish folks would stop breaking the seals on M6 series bottles and all bottles alltogether.

Actually, the design on the caps on the Castrol Syntec bottles facilitates the safety rings getting moved in transit. If you look carefully, you will see that likely the seals are not completely disconnected which must be done before the cap is actually removed. There are a number of tiny breakable links around the periphery of the safety ring. Often a few of these are broken away from movement in transit. What IS a pain is this: The safety rings are sometimes attached at the factory without the cap being completed tightened. For this reason, some of the bottles may leak if tipped. You will notice that you can tighten each cap WITHOUT having to disturb the integrity of the safety ring. I do this whenever I buy Castrol Syntec before taking it to the register to pay for it.

Im with Roy. I've noticed like one of every 5 or so had a partially removed ring. it was just slightly up so I pushed it back down.

i have noticed exactly the same thing.

i "burp" my GC though. i unscrew just enough to get most of the air out, then seal it tightly.

this helps with air expansion and leaking.

Nope...I mean totally broken seals at a store near me. Seems the "sniffers" and "dippers" were out and about one day.

I would never buy oil with the seal broken. After reading how people return used oil that way ... no way.

In my GC Green hunts I never noticed any seals broken and I never opened any (till I paid for them). But then again, we're out here in California, on the other side from where you guys are...

Autozones stock GC like crazy and sells it like hot cakes here...

I was going to post a thread on this same subject last Fall. I went to one AZ and they had 12 GC's on the rack. The security rings were intact, on straight, with none of the connecting points broken.

Then I went to another AZ in an urban area. There were 10 or 12 on the rack, and every one had beed opened! The security rings were canted and completely disconected, with none of the points of connection of the rings intact. I passed on those, of course. Someone is playing games - customer or employee.

No, I didn't waste my time telling a manager. Not my job. I voted with my wallet and feet.

I actually had the manager of an AZ break the seals on two
bottles to try and prove to me that they were green.

They both turned out to be gold.
