GC Gold Extremely Recent Batch Tested 3/23/07

ITALO: No problems showed up in this virgin sample of 0W/30. The trace of insolubles is likely from
the tanker in which this oil was transported and isn't a problem. No moisture was found. Calcium, the
dominant additive, is a detergent/dispersant along with magnesium. Phosphorus and zinc are both
anti-wear additives. The TBN was very strong at 10.7. 1.0 is
 
doesnt need it to meet the standards as the base stock is superior to most group 3/4 oils.

of course, that means that adding moly and boron will probably make it even better!! adding one ounce of VSOT per quart of GC raises the moly to 73ppm (same as M1 0W40) and boron to 33ppm while increasing viscosity to 12.9cST @ 100C, making it the lightest 40wt oil there is other than GC 0W40 (12.8cST)
 
Do you mean GC 0W40 or M1 0W40?

Thanks for the moly/boron and vicosity info. I'll try some VSOT + GC in our E39 for it's next oil change.
 
Thanks for the info. I got a little concerned about mixing Gold and Green. A little digging here and I'm not so concerned now. Seems like they balance each other pretty well.
 
the main difference is a few degrees in pour point, gold is slightly thicker, and the gold has magnesium in high quantities with less calcium.. and of course the color
