GC 0w-30 or M1 0w-40 for short trips?

New car, only 250 miles on it and I'm already thinking about changing the oil.

Most of my driving is pretty short trips so the oil never hits full operating temp. Has anyone had experience with these two oils and what does better with short trip driving?

M1 0w40 is thinner at startup than GC. Might make it slightly better. I think it's splitting hairs though.

Both (I believe) are rated for VW motors, so either should be okay.
With that said, both are some of the best oils out there, period. So take your pick.

Only deal is that the M1 0w-40 is a lot easier to find anymore-most walmarts stock it, while GC 0w-30 can be found in some autozones-if you're lucky.

You lucky sonofa...naw man that's awesome to know it's still out there. I wanted to find some here in KC, and gave up.

What would really have me falling out of my chair if you knew a store that sold Pennzoil Ultra 5w-40...

Many/most distribution centers/warehouses have it in stock, you just need to have your parts store order it. Usually takes a day or two, sometimes they can get it the same day.

The new Autozone store in Liberty that just opened has it in stock. Says European Formula on the front and Made in Germany on the back. Have a NAPA store order the Pennzoil for you.

I'm probably lucky with the GC because I live in a very big city and there are tons of auto parts stores by me. I'll agree it's somewhat hit-or-miss but within 15 minutes of me there is O'Reilly, AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, and Pep Boys. Typically two or three of them will have it (or at least have a spot on the shelf).

It's a toss up really...most pick based on availability & price. In the town I live in, surprisingly both are available thanks to Canadian Tire and Walmart and bot are priced pretty close. I was curious as to what all the fuss is with GC so I have some on the shelf ready for the next OC.

Pep Boys no longer carries GC in my area, so I'm down to AutoZone for a regularly stocked product. I did get O'Reilly's to order a case when they had Syntec on sale, but they only found one case in their distribution area.

Just curious, have you actually seen GC at OR and AAP? I never have. And it's becoming harder to find at AZ and PB lately, too, at least out here in the burbs.
