dealer recommends 5w30 Mobil 1 but i went ahead and used this GC stuff. ive heard about it on ls1tech.com and i tried on my 99 hawk and it burned soo much that i went back to ole conventional 10w40 Valvolin. anyways, is it too thick for my motor? or should i go back to Mobil 1 5w30.

waht yall think?

Can't say for a Cadillac, but as far as weights go, 5-30 if anything should be thicker at cold temperatures and the same once at operating temperature. The GC has been said to be a high 30, but really shouldn't make much difference.

As far as I am concerned, GC is one of the best quality oils currently available in the U.S. Yes, it is a high 30, almost a 40.

I run Amsoil 0w30 in my 2005 CTS 3.6 VVT engine, for all of it life less the first 5,000 miles on the OEM Mobil 1. So far in about 20g miles, my oil has not gone down at all. Stays on the full mark and I change once per year, in Nov.

it is 3.6 dohc.. i only change it if itz dirty. if im running it longer should i just change the filter?

Bro, that's a horrible way to determine the OCI for your car!!!

What do you mean by "dirty" anyhow?

It LOOKS dirty? Or you have UOA evidence to say it *is* dirty?

#@$%!? It's a Caddy! Don't be such a cheapskate! You'd be better off changing the oil/filter more frequently with a low-cost oil/filter combo.

Just my two cents.
