Gasoline brands?

P66 and BP are both quality fuel, they are branded fuels and have specific additives. I know this because I work for a oil company that has both brands, and I load these fuels at terminals. Most c-stores just use a basic gasoline that does not have the additives. It is unbranded . There is a difference. When loading the fuel all gas is the same it is what is added that makes a difference. Circle K I would assume is basic fuel with no additive package.

I thought all gas had to have at least the minimum additives per the EPA?

The chemicals are approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and are required by law. Whether your gas comes from Arco or Exxon, it contains detergent, but cheaper gas tends to contain the minimum amount of additives

Circle-K is a c-store chain - they had an agreement with P66 for co-branding but not anymore. It’s all franchised, the franchisee can either co-brand or private label for fuel.

Not quite the same vein as Chevron and ExtraMile or Arco and AM/PM but the same as 7-Eleven or QuikStop. All gas sold in the US must meet EPA detergency standards but I usually microdose my fuel with Red Line SI-1 if I fuel up at a non-branded station.

Several of my local gas stations like Mobil and Shell have turned into CIRCLE K stations. What is Circle K gas?

It's just a convenience store. It's no different than gas stations attached to 7-11 stores. Most likely just commodity grade fuel with whatever "lowest additive concentration" bulk additive is available at the terminal. Nothing particular wrong with it. Most "branded" fuel is just commodity grade fuel dosed with the proprietary additive specified for the brand.

However, yesterday I went with the kiddie to a Circle K that has Valero pumps and a Burger King on the side. The Circle K and gas station use the same registers. The Burger King is in the same area but has its own cash registers.

All gas starts out the same. They might add a small amount of addatives depending on the brand. The base gas meets all kinds minimum requirements as it is.

Kind of I guess. I think the thing that surprises most people is that there really isn't any appreciable difference between the base fuel regardless of whose name is on the pump. It's almost always a commodity that meets a standard set by pipeline operators and/or commodities markets.

However, there are minimum standards that are only met once a "lowest additive concentration" is dosed at the fuel terminal during delivery to the tankers.

There's nothing really all that amazing about any of this. There are convenience store chains that have opted to participate in Top Tier, and all they need to do is pay to use tanks at fuel terminals to deliver a specific concentration of additive. And they don't have to really develop anything. They can just go to Chevron Oronite, BASF, Afton, Lubrizol, etc. and just pick an off the shelf additive that meets those requirements in a specified concentration.

According to Google, Circle K isn't a top tier fuel, and we don't even know whose gas it is. When my favorite Top tier fuel Shell was taken over by Circle K the additive quantity went down to the minimum. Guess I won't be using it in my vehicle. Ed

No.
