Well shucks, I just saw that the Certified gas station right along my normal daily drive has gas for $3.29/gal. Who would've thought anyone station would be that much under average this late in the day? There was quite the full lot of cars trying to get gas. Although, this station has the old style mechanical price sign and not the digital like most stations. It is entirely possible that the price on the sign hasn't been changed but the pump price has been risen with the poor weather today and unmotivated clerks that seem to work at that station.
I was thinking if a station has slightly lower gas prices and this results in many customers buying gas, it appears this would make smart business sense since you would sell a lot more gas instead of sharing the sales with every other station. Instead usually all the stations have the same price and are content with sharing their sales with every other station instead of competing on price.

I stopped today to top off my tank as I was out and before the prices went up again. It cost me $28 for 1/4 tank.

Regular gasoline was up to 3.46 a gallon here last night...up 6 cents from early yesterday morning. Hate to see what it is to day.
The bad thing is that all these high prices are reflected in food prices and whatever else that depends on petroleum products....practically everything!
I know for a fact that prices here are based on what Walmart sells their fuel for. The folks that run the local oil companies call their outlets every morning and telling them to either raise or lower the price, depending on what Walmart sells theirs for. Plus, I know one of these local suppliers hauls gasoline to a station in Memphis TN, a distance of over 80 miles.....and they sell it cheaper than they do here.

What % of people NEED the large suv, truck? I say about 10%. Why are they driving 80+ in the fast lane on someone's tail around here in CA, ALL the time? Do they NEED to do that too? They are getting maybe 10 mpg at those speeds. How stupid is that. I think it is mostly about macho, I am bigger, I am going to beat you up, mentality, which is sick.

It's a free market. Everyone can decide what they want to buy for themselves, and how much gasoline they want to burn.
Once in a while I see threads where people blame the auto companies for not making fuel efficient cars. This is laughable. It's probably the same people who drive SUVs and want everyone else to drive fuel efficient vehicles so there will be more fuel for their gas guszzlers.

Still $1.30/L in the Greater Vancouver area. And that's cheap compared to lots of other places too.

Sure as a whole "we" gobble up all the oils pumped out, but the US has reduced consumption by a lot since the recession and the clunker crushing last time around, otherwise it would be $4.5-$5 instead of $3.5-$ we see right now.

I really hate these gas price threads. Why bother to complain about it? I just heard Prius sales are up 70% for Feb. This puzzles me to no end. In 2008 you couldn't keep a Prius on the lot, and you couldn't give away a pick-up. $33,000 pick-ups were not selling even for 20K after all promotions and discounts. With a 13K discount it would more than covered the extra cost of the price of gas (2008 prices) but no people were buying. Then the recession hits, gas prices drop, and everyone buys SUV's and pick-up, and the Prius sits on the lot. Did everyone think the gas prices would stay down? Why not look ahead ten years and think what gas may cost before you buy instead of buying a vehicle based on the low fuel costs...

Not one of us on BITOG can do anything about the price of a gallon of gas. All we can control is the amount of gas we use.
