Gas gauge acting up

Got a slight issue with my Grand Marquis, which started last night. I had half a tank of gas, and the car was left to sit for a couple of hours. When I started her up, the gauge was reading full. I checked my ScanGauge-II and the FLV gauge was reading 1.00 (full).

Thought it was pretty weird, but I drove off and noticed the gauge was now reading 1/8 on the gauge and 0.8 on my SG-II. It kept dropping and after 10 minutes or so, it read half on the gauge and 0.54 on the SG-II, which was the correct reading before the car was parked.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I switched from high sulfur gas (500 ppm) to Euro V gas (10 ppm sulfur limit) recently.

Sulphur is the killer of fuel gauge senders that live in the tank. Techron is one of the only gas additives proven to clean the sulphur off the contacts and fix the gauges most of the time. There is even a bulletin put out by GM about using Techron.

I'd run a good dose or 2 of Techron and see if it's enough to clean up the contacts and make your gauge work again. Maybe, the new gas is doing some cleaning too??

Think I may be onto something here:

SeaFoam does not do this nor do most fuel system cleaners.

Does anyone know which one this is, or have a part number? We get the Canadian sourced ACDelco Fuel Injector Cleaner in the white bottle, but I doubt it's the same one. Maybe this one's under the "Genuine GM" label?

My dad's 2001 Sierra (GMC) is having some gas gauge issues. I just picked up some BG44K on ebay. From what I've read on here and seen on Motorweek, it could help with the sulfur issues.

I've seen tc-w3 help the sending units in the tank. If it's a sulfur issue I think Techron, and maybe regane may be the correct product for you.

Anything with high levels of PEA is going to be the most effective product for the sulfated sender coating removal.

Techron Concentrate
Redline LS-1
Gumout Regane Complete

If you can get it, this is much easier than replacing the sending unit if it works.

It seems like Techron is starting to clear up my fuel gauge issue (intermittently goes way past full, throws CEL for "fuel level sensor circuit malfunction"). It was doing it almost every other time I started the truck, but is now much less frequent. I added a bottle of the concentrate after the issue appeared, and have been using only gas with Techron in it. I'll add another bottle at the next fillup.
