IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT
PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY, AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE
OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME, IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF
OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS, WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL
COMPANIES.

THEREFORE, SEPTEMBER 1ST HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR BUTT DAY," AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU GET THE WORD OUT TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN.

WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT
GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES
THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP, BUT AT
THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING
COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON
EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING
MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES, ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY,
WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE SEPTEMBER 1ST A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS
OF THE UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!"

Nice idea, but hey, there's just no way around what the oil companies know just as well as we know: they've got us by the [you fill in the body part of your choice]. We can hold out for a day, or two, whatever. We still need to go to work, the store, etc., and everyone knows it. They can -- and will -- wait out any such gestures.

Oh scheesch. This thing has been making the internet for a while. Only the date changes. If everyone could limit their use over weeks then the free market system would moderate prices. Everyone keeps looking for a silver bullet.

If you read the post,it says,if needed,we will do it 'again and again',not just one day.

I don't know how many times I ahve seen that one.. Just eliminate any and all optionaly fuel use, consoliddate trips. carpool.. The only solution is long term behaviour changes. That is how the consumer can truely influence the market. And save money immediately.

Really?

Let's see, there is an approaching worldwide crude supply shortage, and a domestic refining capacity shortage. If the domestic demand drops, I believe they will somehow find a buyer SOMEWHERE !!

There's flawed logic to that Boycott banner...

The real answer is to not buy gas for TWO days. That'll teach those money hungry tycoons!

Bryan hit the nail on the head...

The only way the above plan could remotely, possibly work is IF people didnt buy fuel for a day, but didnt make up for it, EVER... and chances are it would need to be a few days to make an impact, expecially with >20% of production shut down.

I'm always amazed that people actually pass that stuff on. Did you see the big news articles on the afternoon of September 1 about how the oil companies were on there knees begging for forgiveness and promising to lower prices if only we won't do that again?

It's Internet trash. It can't and won't work. Period. When you get emails like that just delete them. Or better yet write the sender and ask them to stop sending garbage like that.

Here is a hint-if it's in all CAPS it's probably bogus. If it has lots!!!! of EXCLAIMATION!!!! marks it's probably bogus. If it tells you to pass it on to EVERYONE!!! in your address book it's probably bogus. And if it tells you that (insert your favorite rich persons name here)!!!! is going to give you thousands of dollars just for passing on this email...it's probably bogus.

Every time I see that spam I think if only we replace gas with toilet paper and oil company with paper company, I see just how silly it is. We here in the good old USA enjoy the cheapest gas prices of any other industrial country, granted its because we have the lowest fuel tax of any industiralized nation, but still even at 4 bucks a gallon its cheaper than Europe.

I think we should declare October 1 "Go Trade In Your 2002 Ford Earth Destroyer for a Honda" Day.

Now THAT is sticking it to Big Oil. Anything else is spanking an elephant with a flyswatter.

Well some of the states have an even better idea. Eliminate taxes..Lets see......lower the price- demand goes up- price goes up and possible shortages and no taxes to fix roads are collected. Sounds like another sound idea coming from government

I thought Hondas used gas and oil, too... How is that going to stick it to The Man? It's like "I'm still totally dependant on your oil- I just don't use as much on this riceburner as I do on my Buick!"

How about everybody get a bicycle? Oh wait, you still have to oil up the chain.

See what I mean? We'll never stop using oil, no matter how many mpg we're getting.

Well, theoretically say everybody in America drove a Honda. How much less consumption would that work out to? We still have jets, tanks, 18 wheelers etc. I'm guessing even if we used HALF the oil we're currently using the prices wouldn't change drastically at all. Big oil's going to make their money- they don't care how much you buy, but their gonna make darn sure their making that profit. How? Jack up the price so that the money coming in matches what they were pulling in back when everybody drove those monstrous 18 mpg cars. If the national average is 3.00 a gallon today and two years from now we're using half as much oil, wouldn't the gas be more like 6.00 a gallon? Whew... we sure showed them!

And forget about the U.S. for one minute. What's Europe going to do? I was in germany ten years ago and the gas was 4.00 a gallon, but do you see everybody driving a Volkswagon that gets 40 mpg? Think again.

IIRC you can't assume that we'll have cheap gas if everybody drives a green car; the evidence points to the opposite. Eventually gas is just going to be 6.00 a gallon, then 8.00, then...

Thats not how its gonna work. Better gas milage will just mean people will drive more. We are better off the way it is. It reduces traffic..saves roads, which will maybe lower taxes. And fewer vehicles on the roads will mean less congestion.

Like I said..every available drop of gas will be used. The question is how much driving will result. What is happening is actually a good thing in the big picture. Unfortunately many, many people are suffering bc of it.

Gas prices in Europe have little to do with price manipulation by oil companies or consumer demand -- it's mostly taxes.

Truth is... the Europeans have it right.

Truth is, the US government SHOULD have put a $1/gal surcharge on gasoline 10 years ago when gas was $0.99 to fund research/infrastructure for alternative fuels and mass transit. Americans wouldn't stand for it -- cheap gas for my 6000 lb. Ford Earth Destroyer is my birthright! How else am I going to get my kids to soccer practice?

But now we fork over $3/gal and shake our heads in disbelief, wondering how such an injustice could possibly befall us.

This has been a long time coming.
