Interesting. I told him I wanted both kv40 and kv100 tests to calculate viscosity index. He said the VI test was an extra $38. Maybe I should just request the KV40 and not the full VI calculation?!?

That's what I would do. The calculated VI should be fairly close.
Blackstone has an additional charge if you request KV40 and TBN. For a VOA I wouldn't bother with TBN and I understand it's $10 for the KV40.
It's funny that Blackstone says they charge $38 to calculate the VI as we can do that ourselves in seconds if we have the KV40 and KV100 measurements.
I called Blackstone one more time, and they confirmed that they would add-on the KV40 test for an additional $10. So standard analysis without TBN, but with KV40 added on, total cost would be $35.
OAI emailed me back and said that while the KV40 test is not standard for motor oil, if I really needed it, they would add it on for NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE for this one VOA sample. So with standard analysis, TBN AND KV40, total cost would be $18 (plus shipping).
OAI earned my business here... I'm ordering two test kits this weekend.
