My Porsche 928 has a removable sump cover but I've always left it on as the 9 litre sump takes forever to get up to temp' even in the summer.
I've though about installing a sump cover on my BMW and I really should. I did make a sump shroud to cover the heavily finned ali' sump on my Caterham which stays on year round. I only remove it for track days. Without it, the finned sump is simply too efficient at keeping the oil temp's low; it's like having a non thermostatically controlled oil cooler.
