The station in town has 87 octane regular for $3.199 self serve.

At the full serve pump it's $3.759. While I was filling up, a lady pulled up to the full serve pump. They cleaned her windshield.

i didnt think full sevice stations existed anymore, i havnt seen them around these parts since the late 70's

i saw a full serv e station a few months ago. i pulled up got out of the car and started looking at the pump. a guy coms running out and says that i have to get back into the car . i wasd flabbergasted to find out this was a full servie station. so i got in my car and thanked him and drive away.

In NJ it's all full serve. Whatever the NJ definition of that is?

It's one of those magic things that happens when you cross a state line. Only specially trained dispensing personnel get to put fuel in your tank. If you cross the border into PA ..only a specially trained state employee gets to dispense wine and spirits.

Seem perfectly natural to me. I saw Lord of the Rings. All kinds of different stuff happened when they left the shire and crossed some arbitrary border ..every time.

Full serve in NJ means,

1. Wait as lowly paid gas jockey slowly shuffles to your pump/island.

2. Tell him 3 times what grade and how much fuel you want.

3. Watch him slowly go to the pump and try to remember what you had just told him.

4. Tell him for the 4th time what you desire.

5. Have same gas jockey insert hose in fuel line and leave.

6. Wait for gas jockey to notice that the fueling has been completeed and return.

7. Give gas jockey credit card and furiously wait for him to return with it.

8. Sign credit card receipt and wonder why they call it "full serve" as you drive off the service station premises.

P.S. I usually pump it myself, even in NJ. I give myself pretty good service too.

In Oregon were stuck with them too because "people don't want to get out of cars when its raining" despite the fact that all stations are covered, "Jobs for the community" line. Everytime they try to get rid of it people get up in arms. Seems like they only have one person running back and forth and you can forget any type of service other than filling your tank. Anything other than a car/truck though and they'll let you fill it up.

i usually bring my own translater also.

That certainly is a huge difference. They're usually the same price here, but I go out of my way to avoid full serve if necessary. The stations that give me Superbucks and Canadian Tire money are always self serve anyway.

Went out to visit my daughter in Oregon in 2004, and they had full service. She told me how it was adopted to create jobs. We argued quite a lot about it, because I said you can't stop technology, etc., and people pumping their own gas saves the gas company money, etc., etc. They can keep it in place, but it just ain't gonna work.

I was gonna say in OR it's the law....

I still can't believe GoreIII was driving a Prius. That is hilarious.

Hmmm. Trying to recall...who else's offspring had difficulties involving alcohol and the law a little while back?

Pulled the pumps and tanks at my location in '98 to have room to add additional bays to house wheel alignment equipment. We were full serv up untill then. SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT 10 YEARS EARLIER!!!!
