Have a 2008 Honda Odyssey, it threw p0455 which is massive egr/gas leak. Replaced the gas cap, fixed the issue however it dumped a fair amount of fuel in the oil (pushed the oil level just over max when it was below previously.) Current fill is Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 with 2k miles on it.

Questions:
1) Should I dump it now
2) If I do dump it should I go with a normal oil change or should I do a short cycle with a "cleaning" oil before going back to my intended oils.

Since it has VCM it loses about a quart every 5k miles, I thought about running Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 HM or Amsoil SS 5w-20.

Open to suggestions.

If fuel dilution is enough to raise oil level, you need to get it out of there ASAP. I would run a cheap SN oil in the proper grade, new filter for 30 minutes on the highway, with several WOT, to full activate and flush the fuel contamination out of the VVT galleys and solenoids. Upwards of 20% of oil can remain in the engine after a change. Then change and install with the oil of your preference.

Hey man, that sounds like a LOT of fuel in there. Strong smell of gas, no doubt. Now, that fuel may have done some cleaning in the engine, hopefully you avoided the cylinder wash, which is where the fuel will wash the lubricating film of oil off the cylinders.

Not sure how long ago this happened or when you noticed the problem of all the gas in there or how many miles you have put on it since then, but, I would absolutely change that oil. The question about if you should do a short cleaner oil change interval.. maybe. I would consider using a 5w30 in this instance, since fuel thins and dilutes oil, if you are going to do a clean, see if you by any chance have some old oil in a container not yet disposed of, put it in the crankcase let the car idle about a half hour with just the old oil in there, then drain that out and refill with a filter change, the cylinders should be back lubricated almost instantly of good oil in there. My two cents.

It happened three days ago. Only noticed the fuel in the oil yesterday while my weekly oil level check so maybe 40-50 miles max since it happened. I'll definitely change it today. Thanks for the advice.

That's why I thought too but it happened at the same time so I'm puzzled about the fuel. I check the oil level on my two cars once a week just to be on the safe side since they both have over 130k miles.

Did a run to a valvoline quick lube so I wouldn't risk anymore damage. The synth blend seems to be doing well and like Talent_Keyhole suggested did some WOT runs on a nice back road. I'm going to do an UOA in a thousand miles to see what else I need to do.

Thanks all for your help.

Any fuel in the oil shouldn't "stick" to the engine parts, will it ? Get the engine hot then drain the fuel. Seems likely that any fuel will quickly run down to the oil pan and come out with the oil when it's drained. If any remains, no doubt a small amount if any, won't it evaporate when the engine gets hot enough and remains there for a while ?

I had a open-hood 62' Falcon in 1970 that demonstrated an explosive sound when started. I turned the key off - got out of the Falcon and the dipstick was laying about 50 feet away, in the middle of the street.

Wow!! I would probably freak out every time I turned the key after that happening. Worst thing I ever had happen to me was a carb backfire in an old capri or caprice, can't remember which one it popped the air filter off.
