Frustration with continuing "staffing issues"

Actually there is. They just get paid too much to sit at home and do nothing.
OK-third time (at least) where this has been said. Please source link where an able bodied person can get a monthly stipend from the government for sitting home playing video games-on a permanent basis.

I keep asking and nobody can source link. All I hear are "crickets".........

The work environment has changed. Employers paying peanuts, having a poor work environment and insisting on open availability will have staffing issues. If one has a vehicle, there are many other choices that provide flexibility - the gig economy is here. Driving for Uber, lyft, Doordash, Instacart, etc. provide the flexibility folks desire.

best part: they want full-time availability but don't offer full-time hours. With the inconsistent scheduling, they can't even plan a second part-time job around the first one.

Unemployment is extremely low. It is capitalism. Those corny statements “it is business,” that is how “free market works,” well, they work both ways. No enough workers? They have to raise wages. Ford dealership doesn’t want to raise wages? You wait 3 weeks. Or you buy car of manufacturer that pays workers.
When I go to Costco I see same people working and no signs they are hiring. I go to local Wal Mart, and always new workers and always sign they are hiring.

My wife for example was looking to change health institution in February. CO hospitals were offering her 40% less than CA hospitals. She went of course with CA. They are still calling her from CO hospitals but won’t offer anything close. So nit sure what is their strategy there.
Same goes with that Ford dealership.

The US is DEFINITELY not a country to live from welfare. That nonsense is pushed by politicians and emphasized by people who think they are somehow better then everyone and we all should be thankful they were born and got a job, like everyone else.

Being understaffed is not just your Ford dealer's problem.

Your guess is as good as mine? Different fields? Now a one worker house? Their parents basements? I mean I'd understand if they at least applied and then turned us down after we made an offer but no one applies. It's gotten vicious too. The few people getting hired tend to be longterm employees being lured away by other practices for stupid money only to move to another practice after being lured by insanely stupid money. There seems to be no "new blood" and we've had a few people retire early during CV-19 because it was just too much of a bother with all the new rules and regulations.
Big shift is work from home. That means now a lot if skilled workers can get a job in other states. My wife worked for CA hospitals since we moved from CA to CO. She wanted to move locally thinking it will give her opportunity to mive further up the hierarchy. But, CO hospitals cannot match her pay. So she still works for CA hospitals. Unless they offer 40% more of what they are willing, she ain’t moving. Simple as that!!!
Workers are adjusting to new economy, businesses? Depends. And that is how it has always been. Those that adjust, survive.

You have never heard of welfare or Social Security "disability"?

Here's a quick question. Has anyone on this board ever received one of these survey calls?
I know I never have.

For the last year a worker for the Census calls or visits every month or so and asks me how many hours I've worked in the last week and if I'm still at the same company.

While I have no doubt there are a few scam artists who collect it undeservedly-they are by far a small percentage. I said "able bodied". Those who collect it and are disabled would take exception to what you are implying.

I know at least two people who are or were on SSI and started working when it became clear to them that sponging off of everyone they know (because $800 a month doesn't go very far) wasn't going to continue to be a viable way to make ends meet.

Those people are not the reason why Ford dealership cannot find transmission specialist.
There are always those that will scam government, private business, do credit card fraud etc. But, in grand scheme of things, they are minuscule problem.
But that says about life on welfare. If one depends on any kind of welfare program, life ain’t fun.

What program is “welfare?” Go try to get disability just like that and let us know what happens.

Good comment. It's not like any one who works plans on being "disabled-permanently"-is it? You get disabled and your lifestyle takes a real DEEP DIVE.

Seriously, I knew a couple of people who downplayed they were getting around $1100/wk unemployment during the pandemic. Let's just say what it was, they weren't exactly looking very hard for a job. And conveniently, when the $600/wk ended, they found jobs either prior, or within a few weeks. Nobody in my lifetime ever handed me an extra $600/wk, and it was a bad move by our govt. imho. UChicago agrees. And again, that's why I applaud those who make up to $40k, and never stopped working on the front lines through the pandemic. They didn't really get the accolades they truly deserve. If they got fired, their pay would have gone up, and they would have been off the front lines.

distribution centers are located among others. So there are staff who break for lunch, and never come back as they got hired at amazon for more. If it weren't that easy, it wouldn't happen. Amazon promises quick pay and instant benefits. We don't.
I have a story that ties into that.... The husband of a lady I know works at a large distribution warehouse (~160 laborers) for a global chemical company and is located in the standard warehouse "district". There's an Amazon facility in the same area, of course. She said Amazon folks got in the other facility (I didn't question that part.... maybe they stood outside the parking lot 🤷‍♂️) and offered these workers jobs and $10,000 sign-on bonuses. 50% of those workers turned around and went to work for Amazon.

OK-unemployment whatever amount. NOT A PERMANENET program.
