Frustration with continuing "staffing issues"

It's genuinely nice to see that my circumstances have sparked a civil debate and lively discussion. I'm very glad this thread hasn't been locked, and for that, I thank you all. I hope it remains civil.

As an update:. My appointment to have this transmission looked at is tomorrow morning at Rockwall Ford. I decided to create a Plan B for when Rockwall Ford says I need to leave it with them and they'll look at it in 2 weeks. Plan B is pictured below.

I'm officially tired of messing with these transmissions, as this is #2 for me now. I've slept on it, talked with friends and family about it, and I feel no better about this situation today.

The only hope of me keeping this car is if Rockwall Ford coughs up a reasonable repair solution. I'm not optimistic, but you never can tell what may happen.

My original intent was to go with a Toyota Corolla hatchback, but I don't think I'll be satisfied with the hp. I think they're great looking cars, but I can't stand an underpowered car. This one's got a few more ponies. Here's to hoping it stacks up quality-wise.

7-speed dual-clutch or MT? 201HP should be great in a car that size. Hopefully, they get your car sorted at the Ford dealership,...unless you're secretly hoping they don't. ;) 🍻

Seriously, I knew a couple of people who downplayed they were getting around $1100/wk unemployment during the pandemic. Let's just say what it was, they weren't exactly looking very hard for a job. And conveniently, when the $600/wk ended, they found jobs either prior, or within a few weeks. Nobody in my lifetime ever handed me an extra $600/wk, and it was a bad move by our govt. imho. UChicago agrees. And again, that's why I applaud those who make up to $40k, and never stopped working on the front lines through the pandemic. They didn't really get the accolades they truly deserve. If they got fired, their pay would have gone up, and they would have been off the front lines.

even without the $600, that would be $500/wk.

People who got that much from unemployment had jobs that paid well, since the UE check is based on what you were making before.

A lot of people who made 50-60k and up lost their jobs during the pandemic. That's $25-30 per hour. Someone making that much won't take a job paying $15-20. If they do, how can they convince employers they're worth $30 again?

The purpose of unemployment is for someone to be able to find a job that pays near what they made before.

I've sunk a bunch of money into this car making it "mine". Wheels, leather, tint, and actually have a catch can and a spoiler both waiting to be installed, which I refuse to install until this mess is sorted out. So honestly, I do hope that this works out and I keep it, but I'm a proponent of having a plan in place in the event things go south.

Dual clutch auto.. thanks to neuroma, I'm done with manuals.

Then someone please explain why it’s been reported this week that all the workers displaced during Covid have been replaced numerically-wise. That being the case, the workloads and bodies available to fix these should now be at pre pandemic levels. Yet 3verywhere I see signs of help wanted and excuses of “we don’t have the people. So who’s lying here?
this should be a direct sign of number fudging

OMG, that was pandemic period. If government didn’t do that we would end up in depression. Stop with that nonsense about “nobody gave me $600.” NOBODY in this country or ANY developed country succeeded 100% on their own. Everyone has benefits from this system. That is what governments serve for.
If we didn’t have those CV-19 stimulus packages even those who kept a job would lose it. Spending had to keep going. Otherwise service industry would collapse, literally, as well as airline industry etc. etc.

I did my part to support the economy. I didn't lose my job, so I blew it on stuff I wanted. ☺️

Yes, I remember reading that you're dealing with neuroma, I didn't think about that. As for having a plan, I've had people tell me that they don't like playing the "what if?" game when I think about alternatives to something that could possibly happen. My response is always, "if it goes sideways, I'm the one with a plan B when everyone else is left scrambling." Having a plan is always good.
Hopefully, they get it sorted for you. 🍻

My employer gave all hourly employees a Covid bonus.

I have a story that ties into that.... The husband of a lady I know works at a large distribution warehouse (~160 laborers) for a global chemical company and is located in the standard warehouse "district". There's an Amazon facility in the same area, of course. She said Amazon folks got in the other facility (I didn't question that part.... maybe they stood outside the parking lot 🤷‍♂️) and offered these workers jobs and $10,000 sign-on bonuses. 50% of those workers turned around and went to work for Amazon.

Money talks and $10K bonus will attract new workers.

Unfortunately, surveys do not convey the real world I see and hear every day, I see more “help wanted” signs, and “we don’t have the staff” excuses every day. I also hear this month the job rate has exceeded the pre covid rate. If that’s the case, then getting a job should be a fight. Rather now I can walk into darn near any place and if I breathe and have a heartbeat I got the job, and not for the below $15 minimum wage. Again, what’s being said and seen is not the math I learned in school.
The point I was trying to make is that you have two surveys from the same federal reserve that directly contradict each other.

I was going to state that Amazon is indeed snapping up A LOT of employees that were elsewhere before. They work ya a little hard but pay well for the skill set. They have huge workforce needs and will pay the $ to get them in the door so they can keep the profits rolling

Tons of driving jobs out there too now. Working for all those Amazon contractors. Delivering RVs and hauling cars that’s big business even with fuel so high.

Lots of people doing the service work too like shopping or food delivery services.

I've never gotten a 10k sign on bonus. Wait a sec, do you think someone will quote me and say, don't say I never got a 10k sign on bonus? :ROFLMAO:

The problem is, like I said, those folks who kept working through the pandemic, in reality, got nothing, not even recognition. that's a shame if you ask me, but often the case when you do the right thing.

Frustrating, but at the end of the day it’s just first world problems. At least there’s still food on the shelves.

In some cases, yes - some estimates are there are 7-8 million less people in the workforce than there was 2+ years ago...

One type of example - one spouse changes jobs, gets a great pay raise, and suddenly the other spouse can afford to not work, and better balance work and family life. I know several folks who this is the case - the primary breadwinner is making so much more today, the other is a stay at home parent. Stop looking for work, and you aren't unemployed anymore.

We could look at how many folks passed away the last two years...

Look at our falling birthrate and wonder where all the kids are that should be coming - that aren't there...

Etc, etc...
Early in the Pandemic, there was a gross under-estimation of the effect of early retirement (Boomers).
