One good thing about the post office you can apply on the position you’re interested in even if it’s not in your location just to take the exam and if you pass the exam you’re on the list for either 4 or 5 years and if you’re so lucky the position comes available in your area you could apply. I done this in the past to be eligibility to apply for maintenance positions just never got lucky for one in my area to be available. I should look into doing this again it doesn’t hurt and doesn’t cost a cent to go take an exam.

But you need a job.

You are going to have to decide what concessions you are willing to make, or just not have a job in that area.
Ideally I would love to relocate back to NY I can make phone calls and just so be it the school district I worked for has 2 openings in the maintenance department. The thought of living and working in South Carolina just don't come close to a NYS job + benefits and the reason of why I moved in the first place to escape the winters and snow. I would take those winters open arms. And the kids would have a much better education and best of medical benefits.

A word of caution about Indeed… I’ve seen it from the employer side. When you apply for a job there, be aware of the employer can see the other jobs you applied for. I found that a bit unsettling.
 
Nothing wrong with being a union mechanic at hospital.

I’m pro union 110% never was unemployed work was always there benefits were nothing but Cadillac fair wages and fair raises not like my last job here. The water company has a bad case of favoritism I worked along side of employees who really did deserve good solid evaluations which leads to your July 1 merit raise. the company would release an average in a % and many of the mentioned would get merits lower than the company average.
 
Op, apply with the major hospitals, and fast food chains, and grocery store chains in your area. You might also try utilities but usually utility workers are swing shift. Re the fast food chains and grocery stores, there are two types of establishments, privately owned, and those owned by a main entity ( usually the chain is named after that entity. ) The entity type are more likley to hire to have personnel to travel to their many locations and are quite able to keep them busy enough to make it worth having them on their payroll.

Maybe do a little studying and take the test to be certified to work with refigerents first before applying with those entities, if you don't have that.

Also having a CDL license is a plus when applying for jobs and it does not take much studying to pass that test.

you’re right I really should get my EPA 608 universal I started to in New York when I got my certification in motors controls and electrical. That’s the golden ticket I may have to work on that with the son starting kindergarten and 4 month old doesn’t require much she sleeps a lot. For now lol. it’s actually something that can be had online the problem is finding a legit online training program. I thought I found one and it had sketchy reviews
 
Yeah like a worthless person I know that free loads off his step dad and mom, 40 something middle aged, crying that AI is taking all the jobs. Yet every grocery store here has signs and on the receipts that say, "NOW HIRING". Can even drive in an industrial area and see those same signs. Problem is that age group is too lazy to go look and just uses a computer to try to find a job.
Gosh even Boeing is advertising. I bet I could get a job at the first place I go to, even being in the 70's. There is lots of work, but no one wants to work, real work.

unless you find a mom and pop store hiring you wont find a job that doesn't require a computer to apply. There are even machines set up at the depot and Lowe's to encourage people to apply. .

Have you applied to any of those jobs?

Many of those are ghost jobs. Basically so HR can collect resumes to justify there existence and to make it look to the other employees like there trying to hire while they overwork there current staff. My daughter had a low level job a while back that did this. Always crying that they could not find anyone. She sent two of her friends to apply and they didn't hire either, and they had no reason not to hire both - it was a nothing entry level job.

Not saying they all are, but I have seen different articles that as much as 70% of advertised jobs are ghost positions.
 
It does suck to be looking and finding nothing. Don't become discouraged.
You just have to keep at it and sooner or later you'll find a position that suits you and works for your family needs.
It will even benefit you to apply for positions that have hours that won't work for your family situation since there is always room for negotiation on hours since you are no longer a kid and you do have significant experience.
You may well be a desirable enough prospect that an employer may be willing to be quite flexible.
