Hey BITOG,

Most of you know I have been on here for 5+ years, talking oil with ya.

In that time, I also had a job doing LOF's at a WM TLE for a year, so lots of stories there. You also know my last car, a 2002 Cavalier, was a severe pain to do OC's on, so due to that, and financial reasons, it got some pretty crazy OCI's - they are in the UOA section.

About 3.5 months ago, I got a new to us 2003 Mazda Tribute SUV. I vowed when I got it, that it would be looked after properly, no more insane OCI's. Well, I'm keeping my word.

This vehicle is a LOT easier to do OC's on, so on Friday, I changed the dealer-installed 5W-20 w/6,170 miles on it for fresh Valvoline WB 5W-20, and some left-over Fram OT I had on hand. The whole change went really well.

It's an odd thing to confess here, but this is the first OC I've done on my own vehicle completely by myself, ever. I've done lots of OC's, just not one on my own vehile, on my own time. Glad to be where I should be with this!

Anyway, sent out the old oil for a UOA, so that should be back in a couple of weeks, and my plan is that this fill will be in for about the same interval until late October, and then the oil will be changed for a synthetic for the winter, probably a 0W-20.

Just thought I'd share with everyone! Cheers!

Couple weeks?!? i usually get my UOA results back in 3 days.

I was really hoping you'd continue with the insane OCIs... Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

3 days? I usually get my results back in 24 hours!

But it helps that my work is just 5km away from the Wearcheck lab, so if I drop it off first thing in the morning, I sometimes get the results before the end of the day!

Toyota 0w20 is the best deal going up here, so I suggest you go with that! I just picked up 4L of it to go in my Civic this week, and it's still priced at just $5.65 per liter! That's not much more than the price of conventional oil here! They now also sell it in a 5L jug for around $27, so that saves even more money! I really don't understand how this oil is still so cheap, when most places charge $10 per liter for synthetic oil.

If Toyota 0W-20 is still priced that well in October, that is most likely what I'll go with - there is a large, well-managed Toyota dealership about 15 mins from my house that i've gotten very good service from in the past. Would be easy to pick up some oil from them!

As for the wait for UOA results, the first one I sent in took exactly one week, while the ones after it took closer to two weeks. It will only be picked up from the mailbox this AM, so the earliest I will see results is most likely next Monday/Tuesday.....

I'm not worried - as long as I get results, I'm happy.

For a while, 'Dollar Stores' near here all had quart bottles of FOT on for $2/each. Considering OT's at any other store were usually more than $10 for this size, I think it was a steal.

I bought it for my old car, my Cavalier - I figured with the neglect I was subjecting it to, a cheap OT was cheap added benefit.

I'm just using it for this OCI to get rid of it, honestly. No plans to use OT's for the new vehicle going forward!
