How's those numbers. If you are so quick to defend GM then trade that beemer in on a GMC Yukon Denali and roll the dice.

I'm not defending GM. Heck, I'm not even saying you're wrong. Just asking what the evidence is. A few examples shouldn't condemn an entire brand, especially when they are showing signs that they can make a good comeback.

And for the record, there isn't a single GM vehicle that I would buy, given the money and the opportunity. I have no interest in this problem besides fairness and the interests of the market and the economy.

I guess it all depends. My dad's 2000 S10 4-cyl has 220k on it and he did nothing but oil changes and one (lol) air filter change. Besides the clutch wearing out, he's never had a problem.

I've also had a nothing but good experiences with Chevy V8's.

I do like GM's engines and vehicles but I don't deny their quality suffered in the past 10 years. It is evident they are making changes and doing more of what the consumer wants though, which is good -- but might be too little too late.

Yeah, they deserve to be kicked right in the ol' man berries. Our tax money is being thrown at them to keep them in buisness due to their own incompetence. They have to get their $h** in one sock and make sure both ends are tied.

This did catch my eye though:

Ouch.

The evidence is a company with a market cap of $1 Billion and $100 Billion in debt. If you owed $1 Million on a $10,000 home would there be any signs of coming back from that? In the past 90 days their losses were 200% of the same period in 2008. If the tax dollars they are getting were stopped tomorrow morning they would have to shut the doors worldwide within 17 days.

SO what are these signs of a comeback?

I think the question that you should ask is, why are they in this mess?

*** WARNING **** Truthful content below, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

The way I see it... It was too many years of inferior products and not listening to the customer and not treating the customer like a customer led to decreased market share year after year, combine this with blind management more interested in their golden parachutes and the UAW squeezing the cow for milk it didn't have and you get this as a result!

But lets throw tax payer money at this situation and fire the CEO for good measure but leave everything else pretty much the same and lets see how it all works out...

Yup this is gonna work just fine!

Have a great trip down the tube GM, your days are history!

My 1999 5.7L Suburban was good....I kick myself for trading it in. But somewhere in the 2000-2002 era the wheels fell off at GM...in 2004 they failed to make a profit and haven't made one since. That is when the piston slappers were born.

Nothing wrong with GM cars, actually most of them nowadays (if not all) are really good vehicles. Same goes for Ford, but I still fault Ford for starting the SUV craze beginning w/ the Explorer. Anyways, this country needs a car industry and if it dies that's gonna be pretty bad. Chrysler is currently the worst off right now, correct? I don't know what they need to do to fix their problem but they need to do it now. Maybe it's just that not many people are buying cars at this time. I hope they all come out of this in a successful way for everyone.

...because of a combination of stagnation, cost problems, and more recently, general economic hardship.

Most of this has been, or is being, resolved. Their cars are getting better every year.

I didn't say signs of a comeback. I said signs that they can make a comeback. Big difference.

Thanks I needed a good laugh today... Been a long week at work!

GM still has a long way to go to catch up with the competition. I would be the first in the showrooms to buy a "Domestic" product if they offered as good of a value IMO as the "Import" manufactures offer in their products and service!

Have you driven a Fusion or Escape recently? Mustang?

I wasn't picking on Ford, I was picking on GM. I know Ford has made some really great changes to their product quality.

And yes I have driven a 2009 Fusion and an '08 Mustang and I can't fit in it properly!

I can fit in the Escape, and I will agree with you it's a pretty nice SUV but I'm not looking to replace my Santa Fe just yet. She is still young with only 170K on the clock!

The amazing thing is that the GM BoD and shareholders ALLOWED the Old Boys like Ricky Wagoner to remain at the head of the company for so freakin long. To be specific GM LOST more than 84 BILLION dollars during the time that illuminist Ricky was at the helm and yet he still took home millions every year not including the bonuses for screwing up so badly. Why was this?

WOW...you really are the optimist...

I don't wear a mullet well. That said, I'll take a V6 SN95 5-speed coupe over any F-body any day of the week. Speaking of, a guy offered to even trade my wife an SN95 for her Durango. I think she's actually going to do it if it turns out to be an automatic and not beat on.
