GM recalls 300 new Camaros due to cable problem
1 hr 8 mins ago
DETROIT – General Motors Corp. says it is recalling about 300 new Chevrolet Camaros because a battery cable could rub against the starter motor, wearing the insulation and potentially causing the car to stop running or fail to start.

The voluntary recall applies only to Camaros with V-8 engines. The company says in extreme cases the cable problem could cause a fire, but no fires have been reported.

GM spokesman Dan Flores says the company has made about 1,400 of the V-8 equipped 2010 Camaros and 300 have been sold. The unsold models will be fixed before they are delivered to customers.

Flores says GM will tow the cars to dealers and offer free loaner vehicles and oil changes.

Just another GM confidence builder. OH yeah while your new Camaro is in for the recall they will clean your caliper weights....

I'm sorry, but I don't share your amusement at GM doing a very responsible, voluntary recall, and carrying it out in a highly generous manner. I also don't see why brake caliper mass dampers are anything to make fun of. There's no reason to kick GM in the nuts right now.

This did catch my eye though:

+1

If this was Toyota or Honda doing this, people would be wetting themselves while pointing out how responsible the company was being by doing this voluntarily instead of being forced by the NTHSA or CPSC to do so.

Well I'm sorry but I do share in his amusement. GM dropped the Camaro 7 yrs ago because it was a non selling turd and now they rush one back to market because the Mustang has done so well. I've listened to all the Ford bashing for years and now all of a sudden they just MAY be the last man standing. I call it poetic justice. GM brought on all the nut kicking they get on their own. Ford does tend to put a lot more "moral content" for the most part into their cars lately. Just hope the idiot's at GM and Chryco don't drag them down also. There...I'll get off my soapbox now.

Yup. And hopefully GM goes out of business very soon if they can't get their [censored] together.
It would be nice if GM closed its doors and never ever built another vehicle.

That "ouch" may not last long:

GM's Oshawa Plant Increases Production To Meet Camaro Demand

Quote:
GM has said the back-order for the new Camaro is up to 19,000, and there are reports that the waiting time for delivery, depending on the region and model, runs to at least three months. Once it hits peak production of 440 Camaros a day at the end of May, the Oshawa plant will be producing 2,200 a week.

Better to do a recall on 300 cars tha on 3 million. Good for them catching this early. GM is really trying - people should give them a bit of a break..oh, no wait, we're all perfectionists here that won't tolerate mistakes...my bad!

It's not perfectionism. It's the huge momentum of a popular opinion.

Let me get this straight:

- The old version was bad, so the new version must also be bad
- Ford should be left alone in the segment because their car was there first
- It's okay to beat up on GM because they "asked for it"
- Ford cars are more moral than GM cars
- The plural of "idiot" is "idiot's"

Is that a fair summary of what you just said?

Nevermind "dOOd". I expressed my opinion as you did yours. Internet peeing contest's are pointless. Have a nice day.

One thing I definitely woudn't say is that they rushed the Camaro to market. Ford did it pretty quickly, Dodge did it at light speed. GM, IMO, drug their feet and are the last ones to the party.

I actually have high hopes for the Camaro and think that it's a good car for GM. I don't agree with all their styling / engineering choices, but I can't remember the last time I loved any car 100%. Let's face it...all cars are a set of rewards and compromises. And at least GM did the right thing EARLY instead of turning their heads while brand new cars fail to start. If this is the only / worst thing that goes wrong with this car, they'll be ahead of the game. And we all know the likelihood of that being the case.

I hope the Camaro does well. The Mustang has always been one of Ford's better ideas ..the exception being the Pinto ..errr Mustang II.

I hope that all manufacturers come out of the fire as lean and functional enterprises.

GM should stop making cars, and get into the towing service. The vehicles they have sold in the past could be their first customers and lead to great profitability!

I wholeheartly agree and didn't mean to sound like a jerk. I am a diehard car nut and yes a Ford fan (so sue me

) and am just frustrated at the silly things the domestics do wrong sometimes. Yes I am aware that Ford does some of the same stupid things at times but their product is pretty darn good lately.

But

Quote:
Mustang sales hit an astounding 419,000 in its first 12 months on the market, and topped the 1-million mark in the first two years, shattering the sales records of any single model in the history of the automobile. Mustang leads the nearly $1-billion aftermarket parts and accessories industry as the most personalized vehicle of all time, and has been recognized by SEMA as the most accessory-friendly new vehicle.

THAT vehicle is the problem that the F-bodies had before. And will continue to have. That is why GM discontinued them! I still don't understand the logic of bringing back a car that has never sold well. And then doing it in an economy such as this.......

You mean just because they haven't made a profit since 2004? And now we are asked to pay to keep them afloat?

You mean a break AND our money?

BTW, my kids don't want to give GM any of their future earnings
