I cut open the last Fram I bought about 10 years ago. At that time, the endcaps didn't bother me, but having half as much media as Purolator, ST, and others and a third of AC did.

In the early days of this site, Bob did some tests that suggested oil filters do very little.

At least Frams are made in American by an American company.

Weird. All my Fram's say "Made in Canada"

My friend uses only Castrol 5W30 and a Fram orange can O death every 3000 Miles on his 98 Honda Accord. Has over 150K Miles on the car now. No problems so far. I try to sway him to use Purolater but he has only good results with Frams.

I would not use it,toss it in the trash can.

... and besides, I don't think one FRAM has a base end bypass valve. Broken record goin' round-and-round.

Don't use it ... cut it open and see for yourself.

Oh, for heaven's sake!
I used the orange can of death for years in many different applications as a matter of choice, before I knew any better.
Never had a problem.
While I would not purchase one now, I would certainly use a free Fram without hesitation.
It will work just fine, and it is a shame to simply discard something useful.

Thanks in advance (the car is the suzuki listed at the bottomn)

I would go to Wal-Mart and pick up the Supertech for $2.50 for 3K oil change. That's what i use for my in-law's cars since they put 1K miles every 3 months.

+1

The Fram PH8316 has a thread-end bypass. It's the one they recommend for the 2.0 DOHC motor found in the Escort and other Fords.

All the cheap filters use dome end bypasses.

Guess that means 85% of all filters are cheap. So what about those filters using base end bypass valves that just have a metal-to-metal seal between the valve and media element? - ie, WIX & NAPA Gold.

And the chances of that EVER happening are...?

I am not sure is there any improvement on the latest Orange can of death (Extra Guard). Fram recommends 5k miles interval instead of 3k!
i have one that said "Made in USA"!

The thing that bothers me is the fact that fram uses cheaper materials but still charge the same as filters with more expensive construction. Apparently their lacking in some media as well.
